In a daylong celebration for all ages, revel in the splendor of birds with concerts, philosophical bird walks, arts and crafts, and children’s literature..

The specially created Bird Zone offers drop-in family programs and music from French composer and ornithologist Olivier Messiaen’s Catalogue of Birds, played in live excerpts by various solo pianists throughout the day in the Hall of North American Forests.

In the evening, solo pianist Taka Kigawa performs select movements from Messiaen’s 13-part composition, which evoke specific bird songs.

Following the concert, philosopher Simon Critchley and Paul Sweet, the museum’s beloved ornithologist, will discuss the philosophical implications of flight.
