Join us on Wednesday September 27th from 6-8 pm for a reception and book signing with HUNT SLONEM in celebration of the exhibition, BUNNIES, BIRDS, and BUTTERFLIES.  This is Slonem's first appearance in Westchester.  The exhibition debuts a "fluffle" of Slonem's "Bunnies" alongside paintings of tropical "Birds" and "Butterflies", subjects for which Slonem is best known. Considered one of the great colorists of his time, Slonem's neo-expressionist paintings feature an exuberant and bold, fauvist palette to emphasize his beloved menagerie of animals. His spiritual practice provides the impetus for his Warholesque repetitive compositions.   Hunt Slonem's book, BUNNIES, a treasury filled with enchanting full-color and black-and-white paintings, features a foreword by bestselling author (and friend of the artist) John Berendt and an essay by artist and gallerist, Bruce Helander. A purchase of a painting includes a signed copy of his book.     Wine and light refreshments will be served.  View the Bunnies, Birds, and Butterflies exhibition catalog HERE.

British brand to move lock, stock and barrel to the area's new retail district in March 2018. London, September 2017. We are delighted to announce today that we will move from our current home at Portobello Dock to Kings Cross in March 2018. We will relocate to The Coal Office, a 17,500sq ft complex - historically a coal distribution centre - to create a new flagship shop, showroom, office, restaurant and café. Part of the new Coal Drops Yard retail quarter, our new Headquarters has further been conceived as a hub for designers and design, with partners to be confirmed in due course. Originally dating back to 1851, the Coal Office building follows the curve of the Regents Canal and is undergoing restoration as part of the redevelopment of Kings Cross. It is located within Coal Drops Yard, a new shopping quarter set to open as a whole in autumn 2018. With a focus on fashion, craft and culture, Coal Drops Yard will fuse the traditional with the contemporary, housing a unique mix of established and emerging retailers. Individual and independent shops, signature retail brands and new concepts from home and abroad will come together with cafés, bars, restaurants and public spaces to create a new shopping destination for London.   Tom Dixon says: "For us it was imperative not just to find a new office or shop. Lyon's Museum of Fine Art pays a tribute to Fred Deux (1924-2015) by organising the largest ever exhibition of his work. Fred Deux, illustrator, oral poet, writer, and, under the pseudonym Jean Douassot, author of a cult book, La Gana, was a singular artist who cannot be categorised in terms of art fashions and trends. This autodidact, born in the basement of a large house in Boulogne-Billancourt to a working-class family, constantly had to overcome, as he used to say. “He had to overcome”: overcome the basement walls to access the life which called him and burnt inside of him. Overcome the barriers between the arts, moving from drawing to the written word, and from the page to the tape recorder. Thanks to which he recounted stories to himself in an endless reverie, constantly exploring the unknown in himself. Overcoming and being overcome: gradually immersing himself in drawing, so that it was life itself which overcame him and surrendered to him. The exhibition, consisting of 230 drawings, reconstructs the polyphonic world of Fred Deux. Following a chronological thread, that of the cycles through which the artist laboured, it shows the underlying coherence of a body of work which from the outset, like two moulds, formed the tools which were to shape it: the line and the stain. From the drawings known as Kleepathology completed in Marseille in the late 1940’s, through to his final work, via major departures - Otages, Spermes noirs and Spermes colorés, Self-portraits, the monumental drawings of the 1980’s, unique books where the line simultaneously forms the mark and the word – this is the world of Fred Deux which is there to be seen and experienced. Objects fashioned by the artist and tribal art objects of his surrondings, like essential presences, echo his graphical work and replace it in his life journey. This exhibition is made possible thanks to recent major donations which have enriched the museum’s graphical art collections.
