Beacon Open Studios Celebrates 4th Annual City-Wide Art Event

Popular "Truck City" Mobile Galleries Return for Year Two

Kick Off Event on April 27

April 2, 2012 - Beacon, NY -- Beacon Open Studios, the largest event of its kind in the Hudson Valley and growing, will hold its 4th annual city-wide event on Saturday and Sunday, April 28 & 29. This free event invites the public into local artists' studios, allowing visitors to meet them, view their past and current works-in-progress, and get an up-close look at the spaces in which they create. A diverse network of artists will be participating, from nationally and internationally exhibited names to exciting new faces of the Beacon art community. Visitors can begin their self-guided tour of Beacon Open Studios at the Kickoff Show at Hudson Beach Glass' upstairs gallery where they can see one work by each participating artist and pick up a free map to the studios.

Beacon Open Studios takes the unique approach that every artist should have the opportunity to publicly display their art, supported by promotion and events. Truck City, a pop-up open studio site introduced last year with great success returns this year at Spire Studios, 45 Beekman Street. Artists participating in Truck City will transform moving trucks into mobile galleries and installations, which will be open to visitors to explore during Beacon Open Studios hours-noon to 6pm.

Hudson Beach Glass, 162 Main Street, will host the Beacon Open Studios Kickoff Party on Friday April 27th, from 7 to 10pm. The annual Kickoff Party is a great opportunity for the public to meet local artists and participants in Beacon Open Studios and pick up the Open Studios catalog, which includes a map to all of the participating studios across town. Hudson Beach Glass is also home to the Kickoff Exhibition, which opens on April 14th and runs through April 30th, 10am to 6pm.

An established art destination, Beacon is the perfect venue for this exceptional event. Last year, Beacon Open Studios attracted more than eighty local artists and artisans. and hundreds of visitors. This year's event will showcase over 50 very talented individuals.

The selections will be based on the main concept of “Hidden Cities” that analyses the hybridization of physical and social identities in the contemporary cities.
 
The number of works with which you can participate is unlimited.
All video works must be on DVD (PAL or NTSC), no matter what the original source medium. The maximum length of videos should be 10 minutes.
All photo works on every kind of support are accepted. The maximum dimensions allowed per each image are 100 cm per side.

The participation in International Videoart Festival and Photo Exhibition requires an entry fee for every artwork submitted and selected. Participation open to: professional artists, architects and designers, associate groups and studios.

The Summer Festival of the Arts, located since 1999 on YSU's campus, is a celebration of the performing and visual arts. A juried art show featuring the works of local, regional and national artists, this event welcomes up to 80 artists yearly. A full schedule of music, dance and theatrical performances throughout the festival grounds complements the art and attracts a diverse crowd. Other activities designed to enhance the Summer Festival of the Arts include the Festival of Nations, where ethnic groups comprising the cultures of those residing in the Mahoning Valley display artifacts and sell food; an extensive children's hands-on art tent; a silent auction, numerous displays and activities sponsored by community arts and cultural groups, a 5K race and, new last year and continuing this year, the Youngstown Jazz fest, a Saturday night jazz concert.

Jury fees $20 until April 6, then $30 until June 15. Booth fee is $100 for a 10' x 10' space, power available free.

ArtGate Gallery is pleased to announce Between Reality and Virtuality, a solo exhibition by Chinese photographic artist Mi Yuming. Between Reality and Virtuality blurs boundaries: the conventional photographs combined with contemporary digital techniques blur the boundary between photography and mixed media, while the surreal images question the line between reality and virtuality in our everyday lives. The exhibition will run from May 3 through June 9.

As inhabitants of a media-inundated world driven by consumerism, we are exposed to a constant stream of images, all of which are attempting to discreetly change the way we think. Mi Yuming invites the viewer to question whether their thoughts are affected by this manufactured reality, what is real and what is superficial. Her images are enlarged and exaggerated, a vivid combination of real life captured through a camera lens and a digitally created virtuality.  Mi’s virtual reality reveals her desire and struggle for individual existence.

Mi Yuming was born in 1978 in Tongliao, Inner Mongolia, China. She received an MFA from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing. Between Reality and Virtuality marks her first solo show in New York.

The Sioux City Art Center's ArtSplash cordially invites you to apply to be one of up to 100 exhibitors at our 2012 festival of the arts. ArtSplash enjoys an attendance of 35,000 visitors in the beautiful Grandview Park, home of the historic bandshell!  A celebration of the visual and performing arts, the three-day event gives patrons the unique opportunity to meet and purchase art from exhibiting artists. Our goal is to provide the tri-state area with a family-centered arts adventure of exceptional quality. Proceeds from ArtSplash help the Art Center Association of Sioux City fund education and exhibition programs at the Sioux City Art Center.

Grandview Park is easily accessed by traveling straight north through town from the main Interstate 29 exit servicing the downtown business district. City busses run to the Park during the festival.

Artist hospitality includes artist dinner party on Friday evening at the Sioux City Art Center, complimentary snacks and refreshments throughout the weekend, booth sitters, and volunteer help with load in and load out.  Overnight security is provided Friday and Saturday night.

The Berkshire Crafts Fair cordially invites you to participate in our 39th Annual Berkshire Crafts Fair - August 10th, 11th and 12th. Artists will be provided with an exceptionally vibrant platform to showcase and sell their work.

The Berkshire Crafts Fair is located at Monument Mountain Regional High School on Route 7 in Great Barrington, only minutes away from alluring summer attractions such as Tanglewood, The Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival and the Norman Rockwell museum. Cradled in the majestic Berkshire Hills of western Massachusetts, our region has been a haven for tourists from around the world. It is also a desirable area for second home owners from major metropolitan regions. These second home-owners have been the Crafts Fair's most dynamic clientele (or involved/attentive patrons) throughout the years.

Different professional artisans carefully jury this show every year. Once you are accepted to the festival, a dedicated, enthusiastic and diverse staff will be at your service for continual support.

The primary focus of the show is your work. No sales commission is charged. There are no special days set aside for wholesale selling. Participating craftspeople must be present to operate their booths during the course of the fair.
