David Richard Gallery is pleased to present, Shaken, Not Stirred: 1970s Color Abstraction, an exhibition by Anthe Zacharias and her second solo exhibition with the gallery. In the 1970s, Zacharias pushed the boundaries, both figuratively and literally, for exploring color in contemporary abstract painting and new processes for applying pigment to canvas. Not only was Zacharias bathing her canvases in paint, but she also explored the role of monumentality of the canvas, immersing the viewer in an experience with color and her vision for abstract painting. Her studio process became a physical performance and technical challenge while her canvases became more theatrical and heroic. This presentation examines several such brushless approaches for applying color to canvas as well as the impact of scale on the viewing experience. The exhibition will be on view from Wednesday, October 9 through Saturday, November 9, 2019 with an opening reception on Sunday, October 13 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on the Ground Floor exhibition space at 211 East 121 ST, New York, NY 10035. "In his digitally altered photographs, Wally Gilbert slices up and weaves city scenes, cranking color values off the charts.  Ember red burns against royal purple, and lemon yellow pops against red and violet, in "Torn Building Tower – Triptych."  Zing!  The three narrow vertical panels echo forms of the buildings they depict, which tumble, fold, and open into dazzling, game-board grids." -- Cate McQuaid, Boston Globe, March

Nirvana
Björn Persson is an internationally renowned wildlife photographer from Helsingborg, Sweden.
He has spent many years traveling in search of adventure and spectacular images. Several of his photographs have won prestigious awards in international photography competitions. Björn looks upon his work as an art form rather than pure nature and documentary photography. He sees the animals as they truly are: emotional, thinking and conscious beings with different personalities.
He tries to portray their souls and translate their wisdom. Instead of creating despair about their threatened situation, he wants to give people the urge and inspiration to get involved. Apart from fine art photography, Björn is committed to documenting and raising awareness to the threatened species situation. His passion for wildlife was born when he trained in field care and worked with anti-poaching in South Africa.
That’s when he discovered what a critical state the wildlife is in. Since then, Björn has used his camera as a weapon and against wildlife poaching, and donated substantial amounts towards wildlife conservation. Recently he released his new photography collection and book The Real Owners of the Planet, which celebrates the beauty of the African wildlife. It’s the first in a series that will cover the endangered species of every continent in the world.

Catch the Haines Gallery now represents Meghann Riepenhoff. Work Look interesting.

Haines Gallery Announces Representation of Meghann Riepenhoff
Haines Gallery is pleased to announce our representation of groundbreaking photographer Meghann Riepenhoff.

Over the past decade, Riepenhoff has become well-known for her stunning cyanotypes—vivid blue imprints of rain, waves, sun, and sediment that emerge through the elements’ direct contact with the artist’s photographic materials.

Haines Gallery will hold its first solo exhibition of Riepenhoff’s work in 2020.

Cheryl Haines, Principal of Haines Gallery, states: "We are thrilled to have Meghann join the gallery’s program, which champions artists who are pushing their chosen media into new territory. Her works are not only beautiful and evocative of the landscape in which they are created, but are also at the vanguard of contemporary photography.”

Writing for The San Francisco Chronicle, art critic Charles Desmarais notes: “Meghann Riepenhoff makes such strikingly attractive abstract works that they scare me.”
Riepenhoff has exhibited her work at leading institutions such as the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the New York Public Library, and the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago and is in many important museum collections. In 2018, she received Guggenheim Fellowship recognizing her significant contribution to the arts.
