Johnson has had solo exhibitions at institutions such as The Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art (Ridgefield, CT), The National Academy of Sciences (Washington, DC), Roebling Hall Gallery (New York, NY), The Nicolaysen Museum (Casper, WY), and Nancy Littlejohn Fine Art (Houston, TX). She has been featured in group exhibitions at The Tang Museum (Saratoga Springs, NY), The Katonah Museum of Art (Katonah, NY), The Hudson River Museum (Yonkers, NY), DeCordova Sculpture Park and Museum (Lincoln, MA), Royal Scottish Academy (Edinburgh, UK) and Standpoint Gallery (London, UK), among others. Johnson has created site-specific installations for KK Projects (New Orleans), Dublin Contemporary (Ireland), Grace Farms Foundation (New Canaan, CT), Halsey McKay Gallery (East Hampton), and for the New York Armory Show with Morgan Lehman. She is a New York Foundation for the Arts fellow in Painting and Pollack Krasner Grant recipient. MONDAY 3 JULY 2023    As a prelude to Sculpture Network's XV. International Forum Sculpture & Climate Emergency in Malaga, 5 – 7 October, we present two extraordinary sculpture venues, dedicated to recycling, bio art and our relation with the soil.  Tineke Schuurmans NL is curator at the Verbeke Foundation BE which was founded 15 years ago by private collector Geert Verbeke. Discarded materials get a new life in collages and recycle art. Bio art is left to transform. Located in Kemzeke, at the outskirts of Antwerp, the Verbeke Foundation, is a cabinet of wonders, which happily marries art, biology, ecology and science.  Director and curator Mieke Conijn NL founded the international IJsselbiennial NLto question the tension between man and nature in times of climate change. This years edition is dedicated to the earth, soil and ground. Grab your bike, and discover 27 monumental installations in a 120 km biking trail along the beautiful IJsselriver in the east of the Netherlands.  Join our Zoom Meeting on Monday, 3 July, 20.00 CEST. After the lectures get together and networking in smaller groups. Curating and moderation by curator Anne Berk. The event will be held in English. Raymond Jonson (1891-1982) Polymer No. 20, 1974     acrylic on Masonite 30 x 27 inches;  76.2 x 68.6 centimeters Raymond Jonson: Medium and Message has been extended through July 8. Beginning in the late 1930s, New Mexico-based Modernist painter Raymond Jonson abandoned highly abstracted figures, landscapes, and architectural forms for purely nonobjective explorations of color and mood. In removing all references to the physical world, these works – “absolute” paintings, as Jonson preferred to designate them – transcend political, economic, or social concerns, providing a direct conduit to the artist’s spirit. This transition coincided with his co-founding of the Transcendental Painting Group, a coterie of artists who sought to create non-representational artwork as an instrument for understanding the self and communicating spiritual concerns. Inspired by the Bauhaus artists, Jonson adopted innovative airbrush techniques beginning in 1938, which allowed for a greater range of subtle effects and an immediacy in the act of painting. Unencumbered by the intermediary mechanics of a brush, Jonson could apply paint quickly and seamlessly in a manner that eliminated all traces of his hand in the making. The purity of color and form possible with this approach reduces sensations associated with objective experience, enabling a deeper and more refined transmission of the artist’s spiritual awareness and insight.
