ADAM HANDLER  Punk Ghost, 2023. Bronze, Ed. 1/8, 11 in. (approx.) | $6,500

As an artist who has fashioned a distinctive, faux naïf style over the past 10 years, Contemporary American phenom ADAM HANDLER's works are rooted in an autobiographical process of purging his thoughts, passions, and insecurities. His child-like cast of characters have a deep connection to his inner self and is a reminder to live life to the fullest.

Continuing to extend his artistic practice, Handler has now expanded into sculpture. Transforming one of his most popular and endearing Ghosts, 'PUNK GHOST', Handler's first sculpture features a smiling, cherubic-cheeked 'ghost' handmade in bronze in a limited edition of 8.

In creating this labor-intensive new body of work, Handler translates his drawings and paintings into a digital STL file to construct a 3D print mold. The molten bronze is then poured into the mold and after grinding, sanding, and welding, the final step of adding patina is incorporated using various heat sources and acid washes.

ADAM HANDLER  For You Pajama Girl with Ghost Buddy Abduction, 2023. 52 x 64 in. | $16,000

We are also excited to showcase Handler's large-scale painting, For You Pajama Girl with Ghost Buddy Abduction depicting his signature motifs: 'ghosts' and 'girls'.

“It's hard to be simple. It's one of the hardest things... to stop”

Handler's iconoclastic works are informed by an array of art historical and cultural influences, from Medieval and Renaissance art, Folk and Outsider art, and artists such as De Kooning, Basquiat, and others. Engaging and anarchistic in its simplicity, Handler's art is a unique balance of reverence and esteem for traditional art forms and his need to create an authentic, singular mode of artistic expression

Adam Handler, born in Queens, NY in 1986, graduated from SUNY's Purchase College with a major in Art History. Handler has mounted numerous solo and group exhibitions worldwide, including New York, Europe, Africa, and Asia.. Notable exhibitions include Madelyn Jordon Fine Art, Scarsdale, NY, Cohle Gallery, Paris, France, FNG Art, Taiwan, Brega Artist Space, Seoul, Korea; Rarity Gallery, Mykonos, Greece; Concordia College: OSilas Gallery, Bronxville, NY; Vered Gallery, East Hampton, NY; and The Children's Museum of Westchester, Rye, NY.

AT HOME: ARTISTS IN CONVERSATION

Holly Hendry

Friday, April 14, 12–1 pm

Online

Holly Hendry talks with Phillip Edward Spradley, cultural producer. Hendry will discuss her interest in and approaches to sculpture within the public realm, as well as her recent outdoor commissions, upcoming projects, and current studio workings.

Born in 1990 in London, Hendry is a British artist whose site-responsive sculptures and installations are concerned with what lives beneath the surface, from hidden underground spaces to the interior workings of the body. Her sculptures look at the back of things: cross-sections and open cracks through which you see the gooey insides. Hendry addresses ideas of permeability and morbidity through a visual language charged with cartoonish wit. Her works deal with the internal and the external in terms of the body, display, and production, revealing what would otherwise be hidden. Casting is central to Hendry’s process, in which she uses an array of materials, including charcoal, foam, grit, lipstick, soap, steel, and Jesmonite (a composite material).
