A Message from the Library Director, Jesse Montero
To the people of Yonkers:

When I was named director of Yonkers Public Library (YPL) I couldn’t have imagined that I would begin my tenure with all three library locations closed in the face of a global pandemic.

YPL prides itself on being a safe and trusted gathering space, free and open to all. Coronavirus (COVID-19) turns that into a safety hazard. It anguishes me and the YPL staff that during this difficult time we can’t welcome you in and provide you with friendly service and the comfort of community.

We treasure our library buildings, but our greatest asset is our talented and dedicated staff. I guarantee you that while our buildings are closed they are working on developing new services to help, inform and connect you. Please visit ypl.org or subscribe to our e-newsletter or social feeds for updates as we activate them. In the meantime you can contact the library at info@ypl.org or 914-375-7953, but please allow some time for a response as our remote service plans develop.

I am humbled to become the newest director of this fine institution. In its 127 year history, YPL has weathered two world wars, the Great Depression, the 1918 flu epidemic, September 11th and the financial crisis. It will survive this too, alongside the proud and resilient city that it serves, and emerge from it even stronger.

I can’t wait to reopen our doors to you, to welcome you in, and to get to know you in person. Until then, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me at director@ypl.org.

Stay safe and take precautions. Look out for yourselves and each other. Thank you for your patience and support - and please let me know how we can best support you.

Patron FAQ

As of now, we plan to be closed through March 31, 2020. We will reopen only when it is safe for us to do so. We did not make the decision to close lightly - but rather out of concern for the health and safety of the Yonkers community.

STILL MAKING AND SELLING ART!

If you're like me you are probably heartily sick of Covid-19 emails but I wanted to let you know it's business as usual in my little studio :) As an online business I'm able to continue to paint and trade as normal. Freight services are considered to be essential and are still functioning despite closed borders so my paintings, prints and commissions are still able to reach you!

As a thank you for your continued support I'm offering an exclusive subscriber-only discount of 15% off the purchase of any Trisha Lambi artwork from the studio. This includes original oil paintings, limited and open edition prints and gift vouchers which can be used to purchase (or assist with the purchase) of any of these artworks - even a commissioned piece. Simply visit www.trishalambi.com, make your selection, then input the coupon code BUSINESSASUSUAL at checkout.

I've been very busy this year with painting commissions - all very different pieces but they have one thing in common: each of them mean a lot to the person commissioning them and so in turn they mean a lot to me. I've included pics below so you can get an idea of what I can do :)

If you have any questions at all, please feel free to email me - I'm always available.

Stay safe and healthy, and thank you for your contined support.

Hi All, Check out the email notice below I received from Pedra Bramell about her Northwest Wilderness project!

Hi All, Check out the email notice below I received from Pedra Bramell about her Northwest Wilderness project!

She responded to my Facebook post for artist emails during the Corvid 19 virus outbreak. Lie the Creative Life. Join me & email info@fineartmagazine.com to share your activity. Thanks, best Jamie

Pedra: "I have been a full time artist since graduating from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 1970 and coming back to the actual cabin I was born in and this land.
This endeavor to pass forward these acres I consider far more important than any piece or pieces of my art ….. far more important !!!  There ARE more important things than my creature comforts.
AND once cut down a forest like this never grows back the same and takes well beyond 150 years.
This is a forest mostly of northern hardwoods most of which are 75 - 125 years old and older.   This is a forest which sequesters a lot of carbon.
About  1 3/4 miles of the North Branch of the Ottauquechee River and the Bridgewater Hollow Brook run thru it.  Those waters are clear and cold and clean enough to drink .  The Bridgewater Hollow Brook forms a small gorge.  All the roads are less traveled one lane dirt roads.

The following links will give you a lot of information
AND a way to donate, to bring the fund raising to its goal."

I write to you because HELP is needed by the Northeast Wilderness Trust

It takes the individual
It takes a family
It takes a community
EVERY donation counts AND is needed !!!
Without our life giving forests WE DIE.
Without clean water WE DIE.
Without the above YOUR children will not have a planet to live on.
PLEASE JOIN the Northeast Wilderness Trust and donate.
PLEASE ask your friends TO DONATE.

If you need any more information please email me or email Jon Leibowitz Executive Director of the Northeast Wilderness Trust.
