Inside the Studio: Recent Honors and Works in Progress

This month marks a period of increased recognition, with Balancing Act named one of Light Space & Time Gallery’s “Top 5 Three-Dimensional Works” and Summer Barbecue featured in Biafarin’s 5th Annual Online Exhibition with international editorial coverage. Alongside these honors, the studio remains in active production, with works from the What Is America? series and new sculptures underway, including an opened Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup and a new addition to the Conversations series.

Notable Highlights

The award was accompanied by a feature in Art Week’s editorial coverage, “Biafarin Awards 2025 Exhibition: A Global Dialogue Through Art,” which spotlights the selected artists and contextualizes the exhibition within a broader international conversation. As part of the recognition, Summer Barbecue was also listed on Artsy, expanding the work’s visibility to a global collector and institutional audience.

Summer Barbecue wins feature in Biafarin's (2026) 5th Annual Online Exhibition

Robin Antar’s sculpture Summer Barbecue was selected for recognition by Biafarin as part of its 5th Annual Online Exhibition, an international juried presentation highlighting contemporary artists across disciplines.

Inside the Studio: Reese's Peanut Butter Cups & Two New Figures

Robin Antar continues to expand her hyperreal food sculptures with a new work underway in the studio: an opened Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup carved in stone. Building on her recreations of iconic American sweets, the sculpture explores consumer culture and illusion through graphics applied directly to an orange-painted “wrapper,” with a carved tear that reveals the raw material beneath, highlighting the tension between surface realism and enduring stone that defines Antar’s practice.

This work in progress features a pair of abstract figures emerging in conversation, shared by Robin Antar through the carving process on Instagram. Reclined in form, one figure is carved in purple jasper and the other in blue alabaster, reflecting Antar’s frustration with the challenge of meaningful dialogue.

Part of the Expressions in Stone and Conversations series, the sculpture uses minimal, geometric forms and subtle humor to explore human connection, tension, and exchange.

Award Announcement: Balancing Act Named Top 5 3-Dimensional Work in Light Space & Time Gallery’s “All Women” Online Exhibition

Balancing Act, Honeycomb Calcite, 28 x 7 x 6 in, 2012

Robin Antar was recognized by Light Space & Time Art Gallery as one of the “Top 5 Three-Dimensional Artists” in its 2026 All Women Exhibition for Balancing Act (2012), a sculpture carved from a single 100-pound block of honeycomb calcite topped with a Yule marble sphere. The work transforms rigid stone into a form that appears flexible, reflecting Antar’s ongoing exploration of illusion, balance, and material permanence. Collection Spotlight

Decorative Works: Salt Cellars and Striking Centerpieces

(clockwise from top left) Fluorite Bowl, fluorite, 3 × 13 × 10 in, (available); Stone Earth-Tone Centerpiece, alabaster, 4.5 × 13 × 12 in, (sold); Tan/Gray Salt Cellar, alabaster, 2 × 3.5 × 3.5 in, (sold); Blue Alabaster Bowl, alabaster, 7 × 16 × 10.5 in (sold)

During the COVID period, Robin Antar developed a series of decorative stone centerpieces to make her sculptural practice more accessible to a broader audience. The collection includes carved bowls, salt cellars, and small dishes designed to function as both utilitarian objects and sculptural focal points.

Minimal in form yet rich in material, the works are available in a range of sizes and stone varieties and are intended to integrate seamlessly into diverse interiors, offering collectors a refined, hand-carved entry point into Antar’s practice. Robin has since concluded work on the collection; however, select decorative pieces remain available.
