NEW YORK - Tally Beck Contemporary will present the first solo exhibition in New York for Cambodian artist Chath pierSath. I'm Here: Chath pierSath's Solo Exhibition will open on June 26 and run through August 30, 2013. The show will feature 17 paintings and multi-media collages most of which from the last two years.

Chath pierSath is a Cambodian artist, poet and humanitarian. He lost much of his family during the Khmer Rouge regime and was forced into a labor camp as a child before fleeing to Thailand in 1979. In 1981, he immigrated to the United States. He later earned in his BA at World College West in international service and development.

pierSath works mainly with painting and collage and frequently experiments with media - often repurposing and recycling materials such as wooden slats and roof shingles. His paintings are deeply expressionistic and seem to attempt to reconcile haunting memories of his childhood with his life in the United States and humanitarian work in Cambodia.

I'm Here will open at Tally Beck Contemporary, 42 Rivington Street, on Wednesday, June 26, 2013, with an opening reception from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. sponsored by Tiger Beer-Singapore. Additionally, there will be a series of educational programs at the gallery during the run of the exhibition. On July 24, Tally Beck Contemporary will present The Art and Architecture of Angkor, a brief discussion of the visual language of Cambodia's medieval empire. On July 31, there will be a similar presentation on the history of Cambodian contemporary art. The artist will join us on August 7 for an artist's talk and Q&A.
