Light and Shadow Workshop

Shape Up!

Wednesday, November 9, 7 - 8 pm, EST

How can a circle, square or a triangle convey an emotion? Explore how simple shapes communicate ideas and feelings in abstract art. Following the lecture, create an abstract work using bold shapes. Have a surface for your picture and assorted colored papers, scissors, glue and paint supplies on hand. Open to teens and adults!

Tribute to Ellen Frank

This special Zoom event celebrates the life and work of the late Ellen Frank (1946-2021), an internationally acclaimed painter, longtime Springs resident, and Founder of Cities of Peace — Ellen Frank Illumination Arts Foundation. Hosted from the Pollock-Krasner House and Study Center by Joyce Raimondo, Education Coordinator, guest speakers Skender Boshtrakaj, former Director of the Kosovo Museum in Pristina, Kosovo, Ellen’s husband Stephen Dickman, and other speakers will pay tribute to her creativity and dedication to worldwide peace.

For adults
Artists of all disciplines are invited to participate in our monthly Zoom Art Cafe. How do artists juggle the responsibilities of home, finance, and family life with art making? We will discuss effective ways artists of all disciplines can manage time to maximize creative output. Participants are invited to “check-in” — share your artistic endeavors, ideas for effective use of time, and questions. 
Bring an artwork to share virtually!

TEXTURE IN ART
For adults
Rough, shiny, bumpy, smooth. How did Pollock and Krasner use texture in their art? Explore the use of tactile and visual texture in this paint-collage workshop. Collect textured materials such as sand paper, corrugated paper, fabric, cotton balls etc. and a stiff board or paper, glue, and scissors.

Zoom OCEANS OF CREATIVITY
For adults
What is creativity? Rip up your artwork and create a new one? Use a baster to paint? This live Zoom program highlights the tenets of creative thinking that are exemplified in Pollock and Krasner’s processes and their ground breaking abstract expressionist art. Following a live virtual tour of Pollock and Krasner’s studio and house, participants will be invited to try techniques in art designed to maximize creativity and break through blocks. Have drawing supplies on hand.

For children ages five and above and adult companions
Guided by Joyce Raimondo, Education Coordinator, tour the home and studio of famous abstract artists Jackson Pollock and Lee Krasner. Then, express your creativity as you make your own drip paintings outdoors on the beautiful grounds. $10 (plus online ticketing fee) per person. Space is limited.
Supplies and museum admission included.
