USB Bank, Basel Report 2016

13 June 2016

UBS and Art Basel announce collaboration on The Art Basel and UBS Global Art Market Report by renowned cultural economist Clare McAndrew

UBS’s interactive public “Planet Art Lounge” in Hall 1 at the 2016 edition of Art Basel engages audiences with the firm’s global art projects through custom film content, artist-designed tattoos and a coffee bar with specially commissioned sweetener by artist Sean Raspet.

Zurich / Basel, 13 June 2016 – UBS, global Lead Partner of Art Basel, celebrates the opening of the 2016 edition of the Basel show with the announcement of The Art Basel and UBS Global Art Market Report by Clare McAndrew, which will establish the global standard for art market research and become a new benchmark for the international art trade. The results of the first report will be published in March 2017, to coincide with Art Basel in Hong Kong. The annual report will regularly cover all of the main macro-economic trends and deliver fundamental data on the art market as a whole. Furthermore, it will drill down into specific areas of interest and new business developments for collectors and professionals.

UBS is also pleased to be able to continue its support of Art Basel into the next decade, a testament to both organizations' shared aspiration of creating a global platform for the exchanges that drive the art world forward, and the development and promotion of the visual arts. UBS has been supporting Art Basel in Basel, one of the world's most influential art fairs, since 1994. UBS expanded its partnership to include Art Basel in Miami Beach in 2002 and Art Basel in Hong Kong in 2014.

“Art Basel is a center of gravity for the art world where we can actively bring together our clients, guests and partners to see the world’s premier galleries, artworks and artists," said Jürg Zeltner, President, UBS Wealth Management. “And our joint venture to produce The Art Basel and UBS Global Art Market Report complements our leading position in financial research and analysis across the globe, as well as our in-house Art Market Review and bespoke client offerings through the UBS Art Competence Center."

The UBS Art Collection
In the UBS VIP Lounge in the Collector’s Lounge at Art Basel, Mary Rozell, Global Head of the UBS Art Collection, has curated a display that celebrates a distinguished chapter of the UBS Art Collection’s legacy and presents some of its most significant works of art. Dating from the 1960s to the early 1990s, this group of seminal works – paintings, drawings and works on paper – spans the arc of Abstract Expressionism through Pop Art and beyond, juxtaposing portraiture with formal geometric and gestural abstraction. Artists featured include Richard Artschwager, Chuck Close, John Currin, Jasper Johns, Roy Lichtenstein, Brice Marden, Alex Katz, and Gerhard Richter, and a recent acquisition by Doug Aitken. Some of the works presented in the lounge are part of a UBS promised gift to The Museum of Modern Art, New York.

The UBS Art Collection is the cornerstone of UBS’s commitment to contemporary art and part of its heritage and corporate culture. It comprises 30,000 works of art, including paintings, photographs, drawings, prints, video art and sculptures by emerging talents to some of the most important artists of the last 50 years. The works are on view in more than 720 UBS offices in 54 countries and shared with the public through museum loans and exhibition tours.

Art Public: Transforming Collins Park with 22 works of art and live performances

Art Public: Transforming Collins Park with 22 works of art and live performances

For the second year running, Art Public turns Collins Park into an outdoor exhibition
space with large-scale sculpture, video, installation and live performance. Produced in
collaboration with the Bass Museum of Art, the Art Basel Miami Beach sector includes
works from the show’s galleries, by leading and emerging international artists, installed
from ground level within the park to flying along the Miami Beach skyline above. Art
Public Opening Night takes place on Wednesday, December 5 with a program of special
performances.

Selected for the second consecutive year by Christine Y. Kim, Associate Curator of
Contemporary Art at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), and Co-Founder of the
Los Angeles Nomadic Division (LAND), this year’s edition of Art Public features a series of
works grounded in their connection to speech and language. In this context, Art Public
presents a new version of Ry Rocklen's 'A Touch of Grace', a flag that hangs the length of a
pole and comes perilously close to the ground. With 'Black Dada Flags', Adam Pendleton also
turns to flags as a medium for dialog and lines 16 along Collins Park. Placed in separate
locations in the park, two billboards by Gary Simmons spell out the words 'I wish it could be
morning all day long'. Conversation also continues in the air, as Dave McKenzie’s 'Declaration'
features a plane flying a text-based banner above Collins Park, each day at 11.45am, offering
a different marriage proposal to Art Public viewers every time.

Other works surprise in scale and delivery. Presenting a new work for Art Public, Mark Hagen
shows three interconnecting cement screen panels, each made out of 84 individually crafted
cement units stacked together. While Hagen’s work appears weighty, Ruben Ochoa presents
three new sculptures appearing to defy gravity. For 'Love Stream', Randy Polumbo has turned
a vintage Airstream aluminum trailer into an experiential wonderland of illuminated blossoms,
while Pierre Ardouvin's 'Bonhomme de neige' humorously depict a melting snowman.

Works by Latin American artists, including Lourival Cuquinha, Juliana Cerqueira Leite, José
Davila, Teresa Margolles, Raul Mourão, Iván Navarro and Miguel Andrade Valdez address a
variety of concerns such as urban negotiations around freedom, leisure versus labor, materiality,
movement and monumentality. Art Public also feature 'Twin Vortexes' by Alice Aycock, the first of
six large sculptures realized for 'Park Avenue Paper Chase', scheduled to be on view in New
York on Park Avenue in spring 2014. Included in the sector will be 'Riser', a new work by Australian artist David Keating, and 'Poets in Miami' by Spanish artist Jaume Plensa. Finally, 'I
feel, you feel, we feel through each other into our selves' by Swiss artist Ugo Rondinone will be
on display in the park.

Art Public Opening Night, free and open to the public, features a commissioned musical
performance by Jason and Alicia Hall Moran with Brandon Ross, interacting with artist José
Davila's work in Collins Park. On that same night, My Barbarian presents an extract of their
piece 'Broke People’s Baroque Peoples' Theater', a singing performance playfully engaging in
questions of economic inequity, artistic patronage, and cultural excesses through a fake
theatre company obsessed with classical allusion, costume, masquerade and sculpture. The
evening continues with an enigmatic choreography by Alex Israel.

On the Oceanfront (between 20th and 21st Streets) and in close proximity to Art Public, the
Absolut Art Bureau presents 'Güiro', an art bar installation conceived as a Gesamtkunstwerk
by the artist collective known as Los Carpinteros – Cuban-born, Madrid-based, Marco Castillo
and Dagoberto Rodriguez. Open from 5pm to midnight each night, December 5-8, 'Güiro' is
accompanied by a curated program of live music, performances, and events including
contributions by distinguished Mallorcan composer Joan Valent. For more information, please

SCOPE International Contemporary Art Show

SCOPE Art Show

Scope London 2011

For Immediate Release

Heading Signs of Poor Economic Conditions and Civil Unrest, SCOPE London Postpones Show Until 2012 Olympics

SCOPE London, scheduled to take place this coming October announced Wednesday
that the fair would be postponed until 2012. In response to the recent riots that swept neighborhoods of Great Britain, SCOPE and their advisory body of galleries, community heads, and global collectors, have decided this year would not be the time to re-launch the fair. SCOPE Show Director, Mollie White explains, "the current climate of social unrest, and poor economic conditions, did not create for the sure environment to re-launch this year's edition of the fair. It is essential to SCOPE that its exhibitors are given a confident and rich platform, and we therefore look forward to hosting the fair next year, which we feel will be an especially dynamic time, given the international presence of the Olympics and respective communities.

SCOPE now looks to celebrate its ninth year in Miami, November 30- December 4, where it will host 85 international exhibitors presenting solo, and thematic group shows, alongside museum quality programming, including the debut of innovative performance, film, curatorial projects and site-specific installation. As the destination for cutting-edge contemporary art, SCOPE continues to develop its lead role as creative R+D for a wider audience of taste makes. Come celebrate SCOPE Miami!

Founded in 2002, SCOPE has grown extensively in both volume and stature. Alexis Hubshman, President of SCOPE explains " We've evolved from an industry niche to an influential global contributor, with ongoing events, educational programs and the SCOPE Foundation 501 (c)3. SCOPE is the dynamic presence in the expanding global art market." With art fairs in New York, Basel, London and Miami, SCOPE Art Show has garnered critical acclaim, with sales over $150 million and attendance of over 400,000 visitors.

A NEW MOBILE APP AIMS FOR THE
TECH SAVVY ART COLLECTOR IN BASEL

Collectrium Powers SCOPE Basel

Basel, Switzerland -- Thanks to Collectrium-a new "next-gen" mobile technology that recognizes works of art-collectors and collectors-to-be at this summer's gathering of art world glitterati in Basel will experience art as never before at SCOPE Basel (Tuesday, June 14 to Sunday, June 19, 2011).

Collectrium is part of a new generation of art enthusiasts, looking to change the way people learn about and collect art via new innovations in technology.  With Collectrium's mobile app, a visitor to the fairs will be able to point her iPhone or iPad at any registered artwork and instantly receive extensive information on the artist and the piece; add the artwork to her "My Collection" favorites; share with friends via Facebook, Twitter, and email; and contact the gallery about the artwork.

Tapped as one of 'America's Most Promising Start-ups' by Bloomberg BusinessWeek (4/15/11), the Collectrium mobile app has been warmly embraced by gallerists around the world since its launch in Basel last June.  With Collectrium, visitors to any of the Basel fairs, including Art Basel, no longer have to make scribbled notes on postcards and flyers. The collector can leave the fair with a browsable list of her favorite artworks on her mobile device, complete with detailed information on each work, artist, exhibiting gallery, and personal notes - in effect creating her own personalized virtual gallery and catalogue of the fair.  Collectrium also functions as a QR code scanner, so for sculpture, installation, moving image pieces, or any work with a QR code on the label, visitors can use Collectrium to scan the QR code to identify works of art.

"Collectrium's image recognition capability is absolutely unique.  It's one reason I see them as the leader in the new breed of mobile and social applications for the art world," said Alexis Hubshman, Founder and President of the SCOPE Art Fair.

"This is a social art management system, part of the next generation of tools for appreciating art," says Boris Pevzner, the former Silicon Valley entrepreneur who founded Collectrium. "Our app makes the experience of visiting an art fair more interactive for the art lover-enhancing the on-site visit, while also allowing visitors to take the fair home with them."

In addition to using the Collectrium app to automatically identify artworks, visitors to the participating fairs will browse the entire art show catalogue on their mobile device;
enter images, details and personal notes about works of art not already registered in the system; and view all the programming and scheduling information about the fairs.
Pevzner concludes: "We've created a bridge between the physical and virtual art worlds by bringing the power of online technology to that live moment of discovery."

Furthermore, the visitors who manage their own private collections using Collectrium will have easy access to their artworks through the same mobile app, alongside the artworks exhibited at the art fairs.

About Collectrium
Founded by Boris Pevzner in 2009, Collectrium is a New York-based company providing innovative technology for discovering and displaying art on the web and mobile devices, including the revolutionary art identification and art similarity tools.  Over time, the Collectrium team-which has extensive expertise in the fields of in technology, finance, and the contemporary arts-will offer collectors and galleries integrated services for art storage, appraisals, financing and other needs.

Pevzner's business ventures are built around a deep understanding of how different kinds of communities can be enhanced and transformed through innovative technology solutions. In 2003 he helped to conceive and develop xfire, a revolutionary social networking online service ($102M exit via a sale to Viacom). He has also co-founded Centrata, a pioneer in cloud computing for enterprise-class datacenters, and conceived and developed Lontra, a leader in service management of Information Technology (IT).

Pevzner is a frequent speaker at IT industry conferences, and he often serves as an advisor to senior technology executives of Fortune 500 companies on issues of IT management and security. Pevzner holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He was born in St. Petersburg, only a stone's throw away from The Hermitage.
