New Art Season At Alex Ferrone Gallery Opens With A Stroll Through An Artist's Garden

Established as a cultural anchor on the North Fork, Alex Ferrone Gallery in Cutchogue opens its fourteenth art season with a one-person exhibition featuring Sag Harbor artist, Roy Nicholson. "Tending Time" presents selections from the artist's "52 Weeks II" garden series for which Nicholson created one painting each week for one year. The exhibition runs from June 13 through July 12 with a free Artist Talk and Reception on Saturday, June 27 from 4:30-7pm. Reservations are required for the Talk at 4:30; no reservations needed for the public reception from 5:30-7:00.

Continuing the growth of Roy Nicholson’s “52 Weeks” collection, for his second time-based series, the artist again embraced the discipline of creating one painting each week for an entire year using his Sag Harbor garden as both subject and studio. This sustained practice became a meditation on observation, capturing the subtle shifts of seasons, weather, changing light, and the continual cycles of growth and decline. Throughout "Tending Time", milkweed, peonies, daisies, and irises, as well as other plant life such as asparagus, hellebore, sumac, and basil move fluidly between representation and abstraction, and emerge alongside views of the wooded landscape beyond Nicholson’s garden borders.

Gallery Director, Alex Ferrone shares, “We are honored to be presenting much of Roy’s 52 Weeks II collection of paintings to our patrons. As visitors move through the Gallery, "Tending Time" invites a slow and contemplative pace, much like strolling through the artist's garden - wandering familiar paths and noticing details that emerge, bloom, fade, and return to earth. This exhibition encourages viewers to linger with the colors and textures, while reflecting on the passage of seasons and the beauty found in continual change.”
