June was an action packed month for us with the much anticipated opening of Carole Feuerman's MONUMENTS OF STILLNESS on Michigan Avenue. We were pleasantly surprised to have our exhibition featured on the front page of the Chicago Tribune. among many other magazines, newspapers, periodicals and TV coverage. Three days after the ribbon cutting, we celebrated the 100th birthday of Marilyn Monroe with legendary Hollywood photographer Lawrence Schiller featuring his exhibition Motion Pictures. Everything came to a head all in the same week!  The end of June, Danish photographer Jacob Gils flew from Copenhagen to open his Chicago debut exhibition titled The Extended Moment, a collection of multiple exposure photographs that resemble impressionist paintings.  July will be another action packed month as we focus on the works of conservation artist/photographer Cristina Mittermeier from Chicago to Aspen.  The excitement begins at the Shedd Aquarium with ASPEN IDEAS: CLIMATE CHICAGO where Cristina will join a celebrated roster of speakers for the climate summit. The exhibition features a new body of mixed-media collages alongside a selection of limited-edition photographs, expanding Mittermeier’s celebrated visual language through layered, tactile works that reflect on memory, place, and the fragile beauty of the natural world. These new collage works extend Mittermeier’s longstanding exploration of our connection to nature while introducing a new physicality to her practice. Built through layers of image, texture, and mark-making, the works reflect both personal remembrance and collective environmental memory—traces of landscapes, coastlines, wildlife, and lived experience that remain with us long after a moment has passed. The result is a body of work that feels both expansive and deeply personal, balancing wonder with urgency. Coinciding with the exhibition, Mittermeier will also appear in Chicago as an honorary guest speaker at Aspen Institute's Aspen Ideas: Climate Chicago at Shedd Aquarium on July 21st — a fitting extension of the environmental and conservation themes that have defined her career. Serving as the focal point for the summit's "Evenings at Ideas", the event brings together global leaders, policymakers, and climate innovators. Evening at the Shedd (July 21): From 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM attendees can enjoy climate-focused dialogue surrounded by marine life. The festival's signature "Spark Talks" transforms into "Shark Talks," exploring nature-inspired climate solutions from sea otters, coral reefs, and electric eels. Speakers: In addition to Cristina Mittermeier, the speaker roster includes figures like Al Roker, actor Rainn Wilson, Chef Rick Bayless, and Shedd’s Vice President of Environmental Operations, Allen LaPointe Mittermeier is widely known as one of the leading voices in contemporary conservation photography. A photographer, marine biologist, and co-founder of the conservation organization SeaLegacy, her work has helped shape global conversations around climate change, biodiversity, and ocean protection.  Yet even as her images bear witness to the environmental crisis, they are rooted in reverence—an effort to inspire care, responsibility, and a deeper sense of belonging within the natural world.  In Marks of Memory, that sense of reverence takes on new form. The exhibition invites viewers to consider how images function not only as records, but as vessels: carrying emotion, experience, and evidence of what has been loved, witnessed, and at risk of being lost. This new body of work extends McFetridge’s ongoing investigation into perception, memory, and the spaces between observation and imagination. Figures, animals, architecture, and landscape elements occupy scenes that feel at once recognizable and elusive, suspended between lived experience and dream. The paintings evoke a cinematic stillness reminiscent of Alex Colville’s psychologically charged scenes, yet they turn westward into a distinctly unreal landscape where narrative remains suspended and unresolved. While rooted in observations of the everyday, the works in Grasslands carry traces of the vast horizons and spatial sensibilities of the Canadian prairies where McFetridge was raised. Familiar motifs appear transformed, existing somewhere between recollection and invention, certainty and dream.   Materially, the exhibition marks a subtle shift in the artist’s approach. Layers of oil paint are applied over graphic acrylic foundations, creating surfaces that feel atmospheric and luminous. Rich colours emerge through veils of softened paint, producing an effect that is both saturated and sun-bleached. Contrast is deliberately reduced, flattening distinctions between foreground and background, and dispersing attention across the entire composition. Rather than directing the viewer toward a central protagonist, the paintings invite a slower form of looking in at which figures and environments exist in quiet relation to one another.     Geoff McFetridge (b. 1971, Calgary, Alberta, Canada) is interested in how images exist in between or outside of language, and in turn how this encourages more open-minded approaches to cognition. In his paintings, images become language; in the artist’s words, “it should feel like something, rather than look like something.” In the pictorial spaces he creates, definitions are less finite and can slip between interpretations. As indicated by their titles, many of his paintings whimsically play with the bodily experience of design, using simplified figures to both think about forms and collective experiences. McFetridge received his BFA from the Alberta College of Art and Design and his MFA from the California Institute of the Arts. McFetridge was part of the infamous Beautiful Losers exhibition which debuted in downtown New York in 1991 and went on to tour the world. He has continued to exhibit in international galleries including Cooper Cole, Toronto; Contemporary Calgary, Calgary; Half Gallery, New York; V1 Gallery, Copenhagen; Gallery Target, PlayMountain, Tokyo; and Heath Gallery, Los Angeles. McFetridge has also been included in museum exhibitions at the Vancouver Art Gallery, Vancouver; the Santa Monica Museum of Art, Santa Monica; the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis; the Yale University Art Museum, New Haven; Museum of African American Art (MAAA), and The Geffen Contemporary at MoCA; Los Angeles. July 14, 2026 Hannah Klemm Named Milton Fine Curator of Art Hannah Klemm, photo by Manny Alcala   The Andy Warhol Museum announces that Hannah Klemm has been named the new Milton Fine Curator of Art. Klemm is currently the curator of modern and contemporary art at the Blanton Museum of Art at the University of Texas at Austin. Before joining the Blanton Museum of Art, she served as associate curator of modern and contemporary art for the Saint Louis Art Museum and held a variety of curatorial fellowship positions at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, The Art Institute of Chicago and the Smart Museum of Art at the University of Chicago. She will join The Warhol on August 17, 2026. “I am thrilled to join The Warhol at such an exciting moment in its history,” Klemm said. “What has always inspired me about both Warhol and the museum is a belief that art does not happen in isolation. It emerges through communities, conversations and the exchange of ideas. The museum actively cultivates these encounters, serving as a vital place for learning, dialogue and discovering the transformative power of creativity.” “I am excited to welcome Hannah to The Warhol team,” said Mario Rossero, director of The Warhol. “I’m confident that through her curatorial expertise and collaborative spirit that she will bring a unique approach to the collection and our exhibitions program.” As curator of modern and contemporary art at the Blanton Museum of Art, Klemm organized exhibitions, commissions, publications and public programs and stewarded the museum’s contemporary collection. Her most recent exhibition, Run the Code: Data-Driven Art Decoded by Thoma Foundation X Blanton Museum of Art an exhibition of digital art that uses coding, data or AI to interact with museum visitors, was covered by The New York Times. As associate curator of modern and contemporary art at the Saint Louis Art Museum, Klemm oversaw Currents, a long-running series commissioning new work by living artists and the New Media Series, dedicated to single-channel video. She also co-organized The Culture: Hip Hop and Contemporary Art in the 21st Century with the Baltimore Museum of Art. The international touring exhibition examined mass culture, celebrity, branding and artistic production through a collaborative, multimedia exhibition that integrated local partnerships and community engagement into its exploration of hip hop’s impact on contemporary art and culture. “I am looking forward to becoming part of Pittsburgh’s remarkable arts community and to work alongside the museum’s talented team to build exhibitions, programs and collaborations that illuminate the enduring significance of Warhol’s work while supporting contemporary artists who continue to expand and reimagine Warhol’s legacy in our present moment,” Klemm said. Klemm received a BA in art history and visual arts with a concentration in printmaking from Sarah Lawrence College, a MA in art history from Courtauld Institute of Art and a PhD in art history from the University of Chicago.
