I have been out and about testing a new camera for my Fine Art Magazine work. I love nature and shot these pics while testing the lens. What I liked about this album when created in Picasa was the ramdom/ time oriented placement, which was then pleasing to my eye. I did noting special just brought the folder in. The crowded effet of the images enhances the moment of each, as if small time capsules have been gathered stating nothing special, in doing so making the statement more complete... Jamie

RECONSTRUCTED BRA  FASHION SHOW AND AUCTION

Thursday, April 7 at the Southampton Publick House, 7:00pm

As part of its’ fund raising efforts for the LI2DAY Walk for Breast Cancer, the Heaven Can Wait Team hosted the very popular Reconstructed Bra Fashion Show and Auction. Volunteer designers displayed their fanciful designs – modeled of course by very attractive volunteers – taking the humdrum undergarments and decorating them to the limits of their imagination.  Last year’s show included fanciful designs with feathery boas, orchids and ribbon roses with underpinnings of glistening tinsel, rhinestones, ruffles and animal appliqués which looked like something out of a Disney movie, humorous, sexy and fun.  The designs were auctioned off to raise funds for breast cancer and the bidding was brisk. All bras were successfully sold at The Southampton Publick House

All proceeds from this Heaven Can Wait Team effort benefited local breast health organizations:  Lucia’s Angels, the Coalition for Women’s Cancers at Southampton Hospital and the Ellen Hermanson Breast Center.

MARGINALIA: DRAWINGS BY TIAGO ESTRADA AT ROOSTER GALLERY, 190 ORCHARD STREET, LOWER EAST SIDE, NYC OPENING RECEPTION: THURSDAY, APRIL 21, 6-9PM EXHIBITING FROM APRIL 21 – MAY 22 Tiago Estrada (born 1967) has been living and working in New York since 1997. On view at Rooster Gallery will be drawings from the series “A Certain Writing Inclination” and “Narration Styles.” The title “Marginalia” finds its genesis in the medieval Latin expression marginalis, or the act of hand-writing short notes in book margins. Estrada’s introspective and somehow subversive artistic process is deeply rooted in 20th century philosophy and psychiatry, and his drawings are therefore marginal from an artistic and sociological point of view. Michel Foucault’s statement – “We are prisoners of our own language” – provides the viewer the answer to Estrada’s drawings, since he has been collecting and analyzing his own isms and “schizophrenic” doodling/writing behaviors for the past ten years.  In fact, everybody exhibits these sorts of behaviors, since language and written words have a limited nature. Just as Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari distanced themselves from linear thought  in their milestone oeuvre “Capitalism and Schizophrenia,” so does Estrada with his drawings by rejecting the traditional linear process in the arts. “Marginalia: Drawings by Tiago Estrada” is, therefore, not only an exhibition but also a physiological diary about drawing repetition. The artist´s rejection of writing emphasizes the formal arrangements of handwriting itself, almost like a copyist monk, translating without knowing the original document language. Tiago Estrada was born in Braga, Portugal, majored in painting at the School of Fine Arts of Oporto, earned an MFA in Painting at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and is represented in MoMA Archives and in Drawing Center’s Digital Archive Online, among other collections.   For additional information please visit: www.roostergallery.com

Enter here: http://www.kenney-mencher.com Renovated Reputations is the result of an internet blogging project in which paintings and assemblages based on vintage and antique vernacular photography are the inspiration for short fiction.  The blog, which gets between one hundred to two hundred and fifty visitors a day, is the nexus point.  Each week between seven to ten authors from the U.S. and U.K. submitted short fiction of one thousand words or less compete to win an original work of art that is the basis for the story.  The stories and assemblages are then coupled with great graphic design and photo illustration to create an environment that compliment the two. The catalog is a collaborative joint between myself, an artist with a national reputation and proven track record.  (I’m also a professor of Art and Art History at Ohlone College in Fremont where I also am the director of the Louie Meager Art Museum and the author of the text book Liaisons, Reading in Art, Philosophy and History.  The authors are a dirty dozen or so such as author professor Mark Brosamer,  pulp author Steven D. Rogers of PulpFest fame, Dreamworks animator/cartoonist Brian Newlin, columnist Gigi De Vault and others.  The impetus for this project is based in a solo show of paintings in I am having at ArtHaus Gallery in San Francisco in April 2011.  The show is called Renovated Reputations: Paintings and Fiction inspired by Vintage Portrait Photographs.  Each story is a unique standalone entity – combined in one volume, they’ll kill ya!  Download the Tabloid Newspaper catalog as a PDF.
