VENICE – Entries for the Arte Laguna Prize Special Prizes are still open until December 22nd and give the opportunity to participate in: - 5 art residencies - 5 collaborations with companies for a total amount of €17,000 - Sustainability and Art Award of 3,000 euros, with a focus on works in cork - participation in the Mediterranean Bienniale 2024   Read the specific requests, prepare the materials and apply! APPLY HERE On 11 March 2023 the announcement of the winners at the Venice Arsenale.   The ART RESIDENCIES of Arte Laguna Prize 17th are aimed at environmental issues such as BigCi in Australia within Wollemi National Park, but also residencies in innovative contemporary hubs such as Fabrica in Treviso (Italy) and urban regeneration spaces such as Farm Cultural Park in Favara in Sicily (Italy) and Espronceda in Barcelona. Space also for the creation of a sculpture at the Versiliese Artistic Foundry in Pietrasanta, Lucca (Italy).   Among the opportunities there are also COLLABORATIONS WITH ITALIAN COMPANIES which each offer a cash prize for the realization of special projects, for each one it is necessary to prepare a project and upload it during the registration: - 5,000 euros for a site specific installation in Siena in the Roberto Cipresso winery; - 3,000 euros for a work that uses steel for the Planium brand to create a new product; - 3000 for the work, this year focused on the use of cork, which makes the most of the RRR strategies (Reuse, Reduce, Recycle) supported by Contarina in collaboration with the Cà Foscari University of Venice; - 2,000 euros for the special prize from Generali Venezia for the creation of a work related to the theme of water; - 4,000 euros offered by Venpa for the work that best represents the earth/sky link; - 3000 euros for works that communicate the importance of digital transformation in companies assigned by Informatic All of Treviso.   Finally, among the special prizes there is the participation in the Mediterranean Biennale 2024, the prestigious event will select an Under 35 artist for a one-month exposure in the circuit of exhibitions organized in 2024.   Registrations until 22 December 2022.   Terms and conditions >   artelagunaprize.com    #artelagunaprize#fineartmagazine#fineartprize

Living in the Hamptons after the official season has enormous benefits. Not only is the traffic thinner, but the skies put on a show of intense color not seen in the summer months. One of the many reasons I love Towd Point so much is the opportunity to witness how courageously a thin strip of land can hold ground. Surrounded by water that could engulf it at any moment, it reminds us of the delicate edge we all live on.

The sky floods with colored light, and the sea reflects all the action above. You could stand on your head to see the view upside down, and the sensation would be the same. This completed painting will be included in my ongoing “36 Views of Towd Point” series.

The holidays are quickly approaching, and Southampton Arts Center is ready to celebrate with you! Join us for the final days of our current exhibition, two exciting studio workshops and the closing reception for A Celebration of Trees. From art installations, to studio workshops, there is something for everyone to enjoy as we bid farewell to 2022. We are delighted to extend a 10% discount on select artwork in the current exhibition through the last day of the exhibition which is December 18th.  Studio: The Naked Tree Workshop with Dan Welden  Thursday, December 15th @ 1 PM  Join us on a journey to the unknown using the primary subject matter of observation and naturally "TREES". The individual's approach will be inspired by their own physical presence and the artist will work initially with black, either in the form of charcoal, crayon or Stabilo 8046 pencil. Secondarily, color will be introduced with Dan Welden's technique of Swiss Caran D'Ache crayons and acrylic medium on fine paper. A more complete description will be demonstrated in the workshop.  Please Note: This event will be held off-site at Dan's studio in Noyac. Studio: Figure Drawing Workshop with Linda Capello  Friday, December 16 @ 1  PM Working from a live model, artist Linda Capello’s figure drawing workshop will explore techniques of line, mass, gesture, proportion, and foreshortening, starting with short poses and working towards one long pose. Class is limited to 10 participants, and each student will receive personal attention and detailed instruction. Dry mediums such as soft vine charcoal, conte, or graphite, and kneaded erasers, and 14"x17" or larger pads, are requested. Art: Closing Ceremony of Trees Closing Reception  Saturday, December 17 @ 4 PM  Join us as we toast A CELEBRATION OF TREES with a special evening featuring a unique tree music performance with folk musicians Elizabeth LaPrelle and Brian Dolphin. The duo will perform traditional song with themes of both environmental and magical. The songs will be accompanied by banjos, fiddles, and guitars. Enjoy getting to know the artists who helped make the exhibition such a success during an artist led gallery tour and poetry reading.

We are delighted to feature art works of Freeman Vines in A CELEBRATION OF TREES.   To meet Freeman Vines (b. 1942) is to meet America itself. He is an artist, a luthier, and a spiritual philosopher, and his life is a witness to the truths and contradictions of the American South. He remembers the hidden histories of the eastern North Carolina land on which his family has lived since enslavement. For more than 50 years Vines has transformed materials culled from a forgotten landscape in his relentless pursuit of building a guitar capable of producing a singular tone that has haunted his dreams. From tobacco barns, mule troughs, and radio parts he has created hand-carved guitars, each instrument seasoned down to the grain by the echoes of its past life. In 2015 Vines befriended photographer and folklorist, Timothy Duffy (b. 1963) and the two began to document the guitars and Vines’ life story. Soon after, Vines acquired the lumbered boards of the tree on which Oliver Moore was lynched in 1930, providing the material for his Hanging Tree Guitars series. Confronting the silences and memories of this dark episode in his local history has brought Vines face to face with the toll of racial terror on his own life and work.

For Wolf Vostell (1932, Leverkusen – 1998, Berlin, DE), pioneer of Happenings and the Fluxus Mouvement in Europe, life and art were one. In 1974, upon his arrival in the ancient landscape of Malpartida de Cáceres (ES), he mummified his car in concrete, as a start of Museo Vostell Malpartida. Speakers: José Antonio Agúndez García – director, Alberto Flores Galán – curator, Josefa Cortés Morillo – curator. In humorous car sculptures and installations Olaf Mooij (1958, Rotterdam, NL), highlights our deep love for the car, and the sacrifices we make for it, from climate change, human lives and clean air. His exhibition Autopia is on show in Museum De Domijnen, Sittard, NL. Speakers: Olaf Mooij, Anne Berk, curator.
