Hampton Classic Names Boutique Garden in Honor of Retiring Board Member Agneta Currey

“Agneta has been a treasured asset to the Hampton Classic family for more than 35 years and we are delighted to name the Boutique Garden in her honor,” said Shanette Cohen, Executive Director of the Hampton Classic. “The pristine and immaculate look of the horse show grounds and vendor areas is due primarily to Agneta’s direction and personal involvement. We think the naming of the Boutique Garden in her honor is a most fitting way to ensure that she remains part of the Hampton Classic forever.”

Few families can match the Currey family’s involvement with the Hampton Classic in particular, and show jumping in general. In addition to the incredible amount of time Agneta has devoted as a member of the Board, she and her husband, Brownlee, are among the Classic’s longest standing sponsors. Brownlee is a longtime Board member of the U.S. Equestrian Team, USET Foundation and Show Jumping Hall of Fame, and together the couple has owned many successful hunters and jumpers, most notably being part owners of Touch of Class, who carried Joe Fargis to double Gold Medals at the 1984 Olympic Games.
Agneta, a talented amateur hunter rider, was honored in 2008 with the Long Island Sportsmanship Award which is given to a Long Island resident for service and excellence in horsemanship over a long period of years. While she no longer competes in the show ring, members of her family continue to show at the Classic including daughters Stephanie Ingram and Frances Briggs, son-in-law John Ingram, daughter-in-law Kathryn Jennings Currey, and grand-daughters Virginia & Martha Ingram and Charlotte Currey. Her son, Christian, has been a competitor as well, and his company, FarmVet, is a long time sponsor.

The Agneta Currey Boutique Garden hosts over 70 vendors offering an extensive selection of wares including luxurious women’s and men’s clothing and accessories, jewelry, handbags, handmade shoes and boots, art, automobiles, real estate, antiques, home furnishings, furniture, equestrian apparel, horse saddles and tack, photography, and so much more. The Hampton Classic’s own shop features signature clothing, souvenirs and the highly-collectible Hampton Classic posters.

The Hampton Classic showcases more than 1,600 horses competing in 200 hunter, jumper and equitation classes in six show rings. The schedule features competition for horses and riders of all ages and abilities, ranging from children’s leadline classes all the way up to the grand prix show jumping with Olympic veterans that come from all across the U.S. and abroad. The Classic, which also hosts classes for riders with disabilities, offers five FEI classes, culminating with the $300,000 Hampton Classic Grand Prix CSI4* Presented by Douglas Elliman on Sunday, September 2.

A second Time Winner: Hampton Classic Horse Show Poster: Get ready the Classic is coming August 25th -September 1

The Hampton Classic Horse Show Announces Selection of 2013 Poster Artist

The Hampton Classic Horse Show is pleased to announce that it has selected Jocelyn Sandor Urban, a noted equestrian painter,  as its 2013 poster artist.  The Classic’s iconic posters have illustrated scenes from its Bridgehampton show grounds on Long Island for decades, and Urban has been selected for the second time to continue this tradition; her poster 'Stable Row' was selected in 2004.

The 38th annual Hampton Classic returns to Bridgehampton, NY, August 25–September 1, for another year of world-class show jumping competition, luxurious shopping and activities for every member of the family. Set amidst the splendor of Long Island’s famed Hamptons, near some of the world’s most beautiful beaches, the Hampton Classic is the culminating event of the Hamptons’ summer season.

The Hampton Classic poster is eagerly awaited each year, and is a coveted souvenir of the horse show.  This year, the poster entitled 'Schooling' shows a beautiful black and white drawing of horses and riders in the schooling area, accompanied by the serene backdrop of the show grounds.

When asked about the inspiration behind her drawing, Urban said “Every year at the Hampton Classic I have found myself at the schooling rings taking photos and making sketches, and I use these photos for drawings at a later date, documenting all the activity”.

Urban has done hundreds of drawings of the Classic schooling rings and this year's poster drawing was done from a collection of sketches, and was composed a little more formally than her usual quick sketches.  She has two other similar drawings which were submitted for poster consideration as well, but ‘Schooling’ was chosen, and Urban feels it is the strongest of the three.

“Drawing has always been my favorite medium.  I like the freshness of the drawn line which creates form and space and is instantly gratifying,” said Urban.  “It is my first response to what is in front of me and overworking such a drawing leads to ruin.”

Urban received a BFA from Skidmore College and a MFA in print making from The University of Massachusetts Amherst.  She began riding English pleasure at age ten and enjoyed living on a farm with many horses.  Her work is represented in Nantucket, MA by the Four India Gallery, in Newport, RI by the Isherwood Gallery and in New Canaan, CT by the Handwrite Gallery.

Urban has always held a passion for capturing the natural beauty of horses. After graduate school, she attended many horse shows, where she exhibited her portraits. Urban has displayed and sold her work at the Hampton Classic Horse Show for more than two decades.

The Hampton Classic is one of the most prestigious horse shows in the nation and features competitors at every level of rider from Lead Line to Olympic medalists.  The Classic’s feature event, the $250,000 FTI Grand Prix and FEI World Cup™ Qualifier, is part of the Taylor Harris Triple Crown Challenge.

Hampton Classic Horse Show, Inc. is a 501(c) (3) charitable corporation.  Further information on the Hampton Classic Horse Show can be found at the Hampton Classic website at www.hamptonclassic.com or by calling 631-537-3177.
