98th Annual Art Show at NYC's National Arts Club Features
Award-Winning Brooklyn Artist, NOV 4-20, 2011  NYC, NY; Nov 2011 -- The 98th Annual Show at the National Arts Club in NYC will feature the work of Brooklyn sculptor Robin Antar, an award-winning artist who will be among many local artists included in an exhibition at 15 Gramercy Park South, Manhattan, from November 4- 20. An award reception will be on Sunday, November 20th at 1 PM. Ms. Antar, whose sculptures have graced the display windows of Paul Stuart's flagship NYC Madison Avenue store, will exhibit her hat carved out of limestone. Ms. Antar was chosen to exhibit as an award winning member of Allied Artists of America, Inc. Antar is known for her realistic sculptures of American culture-such as Oreos, Diesel jeans, and Dr Martens. Her sculptures are a challenging trompe l'oeil for the viewer, often leaving them wondering: is it a sculpture or is it the real thing? In contrast to the order of her home and the gallery-like quality of her living room where she rotates her favorite pieces, her studio houses 7 tons of stone (which spills over into her garage), and the unusual tools of her trade (including heavy drills that seem far too bulky for the slight Antar to lift, much less sculpt with). Last year she transformed several hundred pounds of red travertine marble into a larger-than-life-sized bottle of Heinz® Ketchup. Ms. Antar's works have appeared in exhibitions at museums, galleries, corporate offices and universities, ranging from the City Museum in St. Louis, to the Nabisco Corporation Gallery, to New York University. Her works were recently on view at the Blue Hill Cultural Center in Pearl River, NY as part of the "Made In America" exhibition. Antar was named in the Best of America Sculpture Artists, 2007 and 2010 editions, and has been featured on HGTV's 'That's Clever.' The mission of the National Arts Club is to stimulate, foster and promote public interest in the arts and educate the American people in the fine arts. The Club's Membership has included three presidents, and some of the most important artists and arts patrons in America. Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson and Dwight D. Eisenhower were all Members of the National Arts Club. Among the distinguished painters who have been Members are Robert Henri, Frederic Remington, William Merritt Chase and Cecilia Beaux. Sculptors have included Saint-Gaudens, Daniel Chester French, Anna Hyatt Huntington and Paul Manship. Many renowned literary figures have also been members. The National Arts Club is proud of its early recognition of new media artforms, like photography, film and digital media, and counts Alfred Stieglitz as one of its early Members. Musicians Victor Herbert and Walter Damrosch were Members, as were architects Stanford White and George B. Post. The Dramatic Arts are currently represented by Members Martin Scorcese, Ethan Hawke, Dennis Hopper, Robert Redford and Uma Thurman. Allied Artists of America, Inc. is a non-profit National Art Society composed of artists, sculptors, elected active members and sustaining associate members from the across the country.
