Concerts in the Heights Presents

Tasting Menu
Monica Bauchwitz, Robert Meyer & Mihai Marica
Thursday, March 23
1:00 PM
Concerts in the Heights presents “Tasting Menu” – a program for string trio of 4 short works from Finland, Hungary, France and Germany. Each composer is representing a distinct and separate style of music which will whet your appetite! Music by Jean Sibelius - the noted Finnish symphonist, Jean Cras – an unjustly forgotten French composer who was also a career naval officer, Zoltan Kodaly -the Hungarian composer and musicologist, and Max Reger – the brilliant German composer, pianist, organist, teacher and conductor. Our Artistic Director Monica Bauchwitz will be joined by Robert Meyer on the viola – a seasoned chamber musician who has been hailed as an “outstanding musician” by the Boston Globe, and Mihai Marica on cello. Mihai is a prize-winner from several international competitions and appears frequently with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center.
Brilliant and Bombastic
Monica Bauchwitz, CJ Camieri, Karl Kramer & Mike Lormand
Thursday, April 20
1:00 PM
Concerts in the Heights presents “Brilliant and Bombastic” – a program for brass trio with a special appearance by our Artistic Director in the role of Narrator! Multi-instrumentalist and trumpeter CJ Camieri – a Juilliard-trained member of Paul Simon’s band, trombonist Mike Lormand – one of the most versatile and experienced freelance trombonists of his generation, and hornist Karl Kramer will take you on a journey of jazz and fanfares, Native American chants and Hollywood ballads.
Obsession
Music by Bach, Ysaÿe and Kramer for six violins, with dancers and actor
Special guests: String Orchestra of New York City with actor Jack Clark, dancers Angelina Laguna and A’lia Martin.
Thursday, May 11
1:00 PM
The Violin section of String Orchestra of New York City will perform special arrangements of the music by Ysaÿe and Bach, as well as new music by Karl Kramer. Ysaÿe was a world-renowned Belgian violinist who as a composer took his inspiration from Bach. His solo-sonata “Obsession” is re-arranged for six violins, exploring the structure and sonic potential of the score. This work inspired Karl Kramer to write a one-man play for the young actor Jack Clark - currently a student at Fordham University. Bach’s Second Suite for solo Cello will be presented in Karl Kramer’s new arrangement for the same instrumentation of six violins. He has also written his own suite in direct response to Bach’s score. Young dancers Angelina Laguna and A’lia Martin have provided choreography and will dance to these movements. String Orchestra of New York City has released several CDs, and performed across the US to great acclaim, and have been called “a composer’s dream” by Pulitzer-winning composer Aaron Jay Kernis.
We are located in the Fine Arts Building.
Our Address is : 250 Bedford Park Blvd West
Bronx, NY 10468

Elliot Landy's new book about THE BAND

A: To help expand the Band's Legacy for Us All

In 1968-1969 I spent most of my time with The Band photographing them at work and at play in their homes in and around Woodstock, NY. We were friends and I traveled with them as they began touring and recording and produced the iconic images for the “Music from Big Pink” and “The Band” albums. I was the only photographer that had any access to them during this period. It was a time of creativity, music, marijuana and brotherhood.  I shot over 10,000 photographs, most of which have never been seen before. In 2015 I published my first book of these photos (The Band Photographs, 1968-1969) but it only contained 200 images and was limited to160 pages.

A year or two later I began looking at a trove of photographs I had uncovered in the process of making the first book. I found an incredible number of really beautiful images that I felt must be published in order to complete a true pictorial history of this amazing group.

Announcing the birth of Volume 2 of The Band Photographs

This new book, Volume 2, will be the the same 12x12 inch size,160 pages as the first book and printed with the same beautiful quality and heavyweighht paper. It will be a suitable mate to it and will fit beautifully alongside your favorite vinyl records by The Band.

In addition to reserving your copy of The Band Photographs, 1968-1969, Volume 2, this Kickstarter campaign offers a selection of Fine Art prints, Lithos and Posters, all signed by me, at prices which are 30-50% less than they normally cost.

With your support it will be possible to publish The Band Photographs, 1968-1969 Volume 2 and help expand The Band's legacy for us all.

Please TELL your friends and social networks about this new book

Mental Chemistry: A Legacy of Marc Edmund Jones.
Presentation Live at the Art League of Long Island & hybrid on zoom

David Perloff Astrologer Marc Edmund Jones introduced the concept of Mental Chemistry, which gives tremendous insight into how a person receives and processes information of all sorts. This is an easy-to-determine, though largely underused technique. Using charts of many public figures, we will discuss how to determine a person’s Mental Chemistry, and how to use this to better understand ourselves, our clients and the people around us.
My article on Mental Chemistry was featured in the July 2017
issue of Dell Horoscope Magazine.

Seven Methods of Prediction: What, When, and Who?
Presentation Live at the Art League of Long Island & Hybrid

In this practical talk, we’ll survey seven methods of prediction: transits, secondary progressions, solar arc directions, solar returns, mundane transits, annual profections, and the Huber Life Clock. Each of these techniques has its own internal logic and gives a particular type of information. You’ll learn about the limits of predictions, and the importance of using a method that resonates with the client and their chart - as well as the astrologer. There will be plenty of examples, and opportunities to work with your chart. The basics of each method will be covered so that you can begin to use them immediately.

Astrology Basics: Depositor, and Final Depositors.

Applying depositors, and final depositors is a simple astrological technique. Depositors , and final depositors  add  color and depth to interpretation. Viewing the sign, planet, and  house of the depositors lends a quick understanding of their energies. Constructing a depositor tree, describing the depositors emphasis enables the possibilities, and direction in charts to be easily read as the descriptive energies unfold. I love Astrology and hope to share with you  an understanding of depositors as an astrological technique.
