NEW RELEASES ON ARTS.FILM

Clochettes de l'espoir by Taylor Crowspreadshiswings

With great sensitivity, this short film based on a true story speaks to the resilience that comes through dance. Directed by Taylor Crowspreadshiswings, a woman of Blackfoot and Sioux origin, the film reminds us that this art form is not just about folklore; it can be a way to overcome adversity, connect with our spirituality, and find inner peace. Now a mother, Taylor is determined to preserve her experience and to protect the traditions that have shaped her, such as powwows and sewing. An intimate story of personal transformation and the path to healing.

Playback by Agustina Comedi

Córdoba, Argentina. As the 80s drew to a close, along with the military dictatorship, a group of transgender and drag queen friends came together to sing and perform on stage. Under the name “Grupo Kalas”, this band of free spirits was faced with the conservatism that reigned in the city. Dresses and playbacks became their weapons and their trenches. Of all the group’s members, only “La Delpi” is still alive, the rest lost to AIDS and the passage of time. Their story lives on through her words in this film composed of archival VHS images, which lend an aura of nostalgia. Heartbreaking though it is, her farewell letter to them also stands as a manifesto of friendship. A work infused with extraordinary sensitivity and beauty.

"From childhood, everyone can remember a favorite tree in their backyard, neighborhood or local park providing a shady spot on a summer’s day to have a picnic, read a book or play with friends. What about finding the perfect ruby-red McIntosh apple and plucking it from the biggest tree at the apple orchard, or spotting the tallest tree to hang a tire swing from? On October 1, Southampton Arts Center opened 'A Celebration of Trees,' an ecological multi-media art exhibition created to educate and expand thought about tress from all over the world." - Elizabeth Vespe, The Southampton Press

"My photographs turn into ghosts that mingle in a timeline." - Roberta Marroquin, A CELEBRATION OF TREES artist

Roberta Marroquin explores the stories of the people she meets through travel. Often, the tales told have some elements that are true and some that are invented or exaggerated. Roberta's photography explores that relationship between what is real, what is fantasy, and whether either truly exist.

Don't miss your chance to see A CELEBRATION OF TREES, now through December 18!
