Vidéos de l'artiste Jean-Michel Comte was born in 1975 in Nice, where he lived until the age of 21. The Provençal light of the countryside around Nice has been a constant inspiration for him, as has the violence heexperienced as a teenager. He began studying visual arts in 1994 at the Villa Thiole in Nice, then at the Toulon Beaux-Arts from 1996 to 2000. There followed a three-year course atHEAD - Genève, in Peter Roesch’s atelier, then several exhibitions inSwitzerland, where he settled permanently in the 2000s. Since then, his artistic output has developed in parallel with work in high-end prêt-à-porter.  Jean-Michel Comte’s work is gestural and instinctive, and is rooted in turbulent inner experiences, emotions and traumatic memories which he transcends and transforms into hidden writings, pulsing outlines and spattered figures. He works standing up, drawing a whole pen and ink series simultaneously, directly on the floor. By moving from one sheet to another, he captures the immediacy ofa gesture. «I get into a creative ballet,» he writes, «an instantaneous choreography that is never the same. I cover the sheets, I saturate them, I scratch them, I retouch and rework things all the time. I am expressive and repressive. Born in Le Puy-en-Velay on 3 August 1928, Henri Comby acquired his passion for drawing from his neighbour, a master glassblower, at the age of fourteen. He trained at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Lyon, then in Paris at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière and the Académie Ranson, in the studios of Fernand Léger and Jean Deyrolle.  What he does, in fact, is to cut open an era in the same way that doctors in days of old used to open up bodies in search of a pathology, a physiological function or an unusual pattern. We might flashback here to Henri Comby’s childhood and adolescence, with animal carcasses hanging in the family delicatessen, or visits to a pig slaughterhouse. He makes no secret of his admiration for works like Rembrandt’s Slaughtered Ox or Soutine’s Carcass of Beef. How is a body (animal or human) made, how is Romanesque or Baroque religious architecture made, how is a factory, a wind tunnel, or a machine tool made? What organs are they composed of, what flows and motions go through them, what analogies bring them together? These are the questions that the artist’s metal sculptures, drawings and collages are basically asking. He is not praising them or passing judgement, but he is still astonished by both human and natural engineering and their potential for destructive brutality. At the same time, he finds artistic forms through which to devise new functions, new harmonies, new bio-industrial systems. An award-winning experimental film, performance, and installation artist, Childree began making paintings as backdrops for his films and mixed media installations, but, at the outset, they were props, not the focus. After more than a decade of working in Miami’s art scene, he’s honed a painting style that holds his past while opening into a more meditative moment. The exhibition will open on September 30th and will be on view through November 7, 2020. Storm Inn by Clifton Childree is funded by The Ellies, Miami’s visual arts awards, presented by Oolite Arts. Through a competitive application process and monetary awards, The Ellies celebrate individual artists who are the backbone of Miami’s visual arts community. ABOUT CLIFTON CHILDREE Clifton Childree (born 1971 Birmingham, AL. Lives and works Miami, FL) is a filmmaker and artist who has shown at Perez Art Museum Miami, Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami, Oolite Arts, Bas Fisher International (BFI), Pulse Art Fair, Florida Atlantic University (FAU), Frost Museum of Art at Florida International University, Miami International Film Festival, Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, Florida Dance Festival, Locust Projects, Hallwalls in Buffalo, NY, and internationally in Vienna at Hilger Brot Kunsthalle and a solo exhibition at Kunsthalle Wien in addition to over 40 domestic and international film festivals. He received an Ellie Award from Oolite Arts, The Hilger Award for Locust Projects, the South Florida Cultural Consortium Fellowship, the Legal Art Native Seeds Grant, and the Florida Individual Artist Fellowship. His large-scale installations have been commissioned by the Pulse Art Fair NYC, Locust Projects Miami, the Miami Performing Arts Center/Miami Light Project, Hilger Contemporary Gallery, and Kunsthalle Wien. Childree collaborated with Pablo Cano on nine animated films intended for permanent display at the Young at Arts Museum in Davie, FL.  Childree is a featured artist in the book Miami Contemporary Artists. His show Fuck That Chicken from Popeyes for the Wien Museum Project Space in 2011 was accompanied by an eponymous well-illustrated catalog, featuring essays by Synne Genzmer and Gerald Matt. Stonehenge NYC Announces One-Year Residency with Free Housing for Creatives in NYC - 'Still Standing'

NEW YORK, Oct. 22, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- Stonehenge NYC, a leading real estate company in New York City, announces the official launch of Still Standing - a one-year residency with free housing for 20 artists and creatives in NYC, in exchange for regular commissions of their work.

Stonehenge NYC has recognized that, like many New Yorkers, artists have been hit particularly hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. It will actively support these essential members of our community by offering free apartments within its portfolio of luxury rental buildings across Manhattan and Long Island City. By supporting creatives across all mediums -- including (but not limited to) literature, performance, design, cinema, music, photography, and visual arts -- Stonehenge NYC hopes to give artists the time and space needed to create groundbreaking work that will lead the city into its next chapter, while supporting its ongoing campaign, "New York is Still Standing!"

The artists and creatives will be selected by a special committee via an application process, which will consist of two primary components -- the personal statement and the art submission, and will open on October 22nd and close at midnight on November 30, 2020. The residency will commence in March of 2021 and is open to any artist or creative who is eligible to live and work in New York City.

"New Yorkers are no stranger to struggle, and we will show the world our strength and resilience. EMILIE ARNOUX, "THE LINE" 47" x 40"

Emilie Arnoux’s paintings are brilliantly paired with American photographer Lynn Savarese. Together the two artists' work comes to life in vivid juxtaposition; the gentle flow of water in motion with the play of sunlight on its surface offers up endless summer reveries all the more apropos with dog-days now sadly coming to an end. This exhibition seeks to satisfy our intense longing for one last tryst in the sun.

EMILIE ARNOUX, "NO MATTER" 47" x 40"

Arnoux hails from Normandy, France. From a young age, she became fascinated by the ocean and the laid back lifestyle surf-culture engenders. Her work captures the divine energy and the jubilation experienced when diving into cool water for relief from the hot-hot heat; tan bikini-clad bodies soaking up vitamin D by the pool while bobbing enticingly in bright-red inflatable rafts. Arnoux’s neo art-deco style is drenched in a certain Americana nostalgia, reminiscent of David Hockney and at times Toulouse-Lautrec. She reduces three-dimensional objects to flat geometric shapes that feel at once contemporary and modern, recalling beach-side postcards of the 1950s and 60s.

LYNN SAVARESE, LIGHT STRATA 2 , 40" x 40"

Savarese’s favorite subject, too, is water, in all of its manifestations from calm to turbulent; from gently lapping to crashing in frothy tumult. In her portrayals of water, she strives to evoke the ways in which this universal elixir uniquely soothes, excites, inspires, consoles, renews, delights, and awes. Savarese has traversed the globe to capture water’s beauty; from the Hamptons, the Adirondacks, and Martha's Vineyard, to Iceland, Australia, the Caribbean, Patagonia, Europe, and Japan. Her featured images focus on the mesmerizing ways in which water surfaces collaborate with intense summer light and serve as exquisite canvases for abstract artistic renderings. Savarese’s aquatic portraits offer a dynamic connection with Arnoux’s paintings of glimmering water, with each artist inviting or daring viewers to dive right in.

POOLSIDE resonates with a complex prism of sun-drenched hues; Savarese’s images are rich in cobalt blues, teals, and whites, while Arnoux’s vivid pastel color palette employs a range of saturated blues, greens, and oranges. The two artists’ intimate portrayals of water reflect a deep affinity, while retaining an inspired uniqueness. Together, the exquisite works illustrate in living color the exhilarating sensations of summertime.
