Stuck In the house ? Can't get out? Catch This weekend, Works & Process, the performing arts series at the Guggenheim!

This weekend, Works & Process, the performing arts series at the Guggenheim, presented the premieres of new commissions from Joseph Gordon and Adrian Danchig-Waring; and Alejandro Cerrudo and Ana Lopez.

"I've Been Waiting For This" by Joseph Gordon and Adrian Danchig-Waring

Commissioned by Works & Process at the Guggenheim.
Co-presented by Allies in Arts, Dyamant Pictures, Jerome Robbins Dance Division at The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, The Kennedy Center, and New York City Center.

"I've Been Waiting For This" is a reflection of our time spent in isolation during the beginning stages of the coronavirus pandemic. An experience at once strange and profoundly universal, this disruption created a necessary space for contemplation about the systems, institutions, politics and artforms we have lived within. Feeling overwhelmed, we increasingly turned to the natural world for solace. Every time we walked in the forest we came out feeling different; somehow more at ease with life's uncertainty. While observing nature's indifference to human suffering- the seasons still change and life cycles recur- we began to let go of the past. This project is both a document of our experience and a meditation on the relationship between man and nature, the constraints of life in isolation, and the intrinsic desire to connect.

I've Been Waiting For This by Joseph Gordon and Adrian Danchig-Waring, Choreography: Joseph Gordon and Adrian Danchig-Waring, Direction & Cinematography: Joseph Gordon and Adrian Danchig-Waring, Editing: Serena Dykman, "Wrong Side" by HIPS, Original Song Composed and Produced by Christina Gaillard, Lyrics and Vocal Melodies: Drew Denny, Featuring dream fugue remix Composed and Produced by Harriet Brown, Mixed and Mastered by Jake Viator at Stones Throw studio in Los Angeles, CA.

"With You" by Alejandro Cerrudo and Ana Lopez

Commissioned by Works & Process at the Guggenheim.
Co-presented by George Mason University - College of Visual and Performing Arts, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, The Joyce Theater, Kaatsbaan | cultural park for dance, and Pacific Northwest Ballet.

Works & Process at the Guggenheim
Described by The New York Times as "an exceptional opportunity to understand something of the creative process," for 35 years, New Yorkers have been able to see, hear, and meet the most acclaimed artists in the world, in an intimate setting unlike any other. Works & Process, the performing arts series at the Guggenheim, has championed new works and offered audiences unprecedented access to generations of leading creators and performers. Most performances take place in the Guggenheim's intimate Frank Lloyd Wright-designed 273-seat Peter B. Lewis Theater. In 2017, Works & Process established a new residency and commissioning program, inviting artists to create new works, made in and for the iconic Guggenheim rotunda. In 2020, Works & Process Artists (WPA) Virtual Commissions was created to financially support artists and nurture their creative process during the pandemic. worksandprocess.org.

Independent Curators International (ICI) is pleased to partner with ART FOR CHANGE to launch Novella (2020), a limited edition print, by NY-based artist Grace Weaver in support of this year’s Curatorial Forum. The Curatorial Forum, organized by ICI with EXPO CHICAGO, convenes 40 US curators annually to generate conversations about the civic responsibilities of museums, topics of accessibility, regionalism, and racial equity.

ICI Leadership Council member, Jeanne Masel, started ART FOR CHANGE to offer exceptional contemporary art for socially conscious collectors. ART FOR CHANGE has commissioned Weaver to create a limited edition print that will support ICI and the Curatorial Forum, and raise awareness for this year’s convening, set to take place online on September 24, 2020. This special online edition of the Forum will build upon past sessions with a particular focus on racial equity to engage curators in the long-term transformation work needed from within the institution.

STEPS, an exhibition of Weaver’s new paintings and drawings is currently on view, spanning both locations of James Cohan Gallery, by appointment, and
online July 15–Sept 12, 2020. Weaver playfully explores the contradictions embedded in our social fabric: who has power, who is powerless; who is revealed, and who is hidden. The title of Weaver’s newly commissioned print Novella (2020) alludes to the book carried by the print's protagonist, and to whose narrative and perspective the novella carries within.
Weaver’s Novella (2020) is available in a hand-signed and numbered edition of 30 with 10 one-of-a-kind, hand-embellished works, and 4 APs. The prints will be available for sale on ARTFORCHANGE.com. 40% percent of the net proceeds from each Grace Weaver print sold will directly benefit ICI’s Curatorial Forum 2020, and, of the remaining net sale proceeds, 50% will directly benefit the artist.

In her striking portrayals of the tragicomic everyday, Grace Weaver examines the charged social and cultural conditions that underlie self-concept, intimacy, and individual experience. Depicting elastic-limbed figures that arrange themselves before mirrors and collide on street-corners, her works turn an incisive yet empathetic eye onto the self-conscious performativity and precarious footing of her contemporaries within a “theater of public life.” In Weaver’s paintings, body becomes scenario: playful, sweeping lines and dense planes of luminous color act as linguistic elements, each directing its own physical weight and affect onto her female subjects.
Grace Weaver (b. 1989, Vermont) received an MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2015. Her work has been the subject of solo exhibitions in New York, NY; Burlington, VT; Berlin and Reutlingen in Germany, Glasgow, Scotland; and Chennai, India, and is featured in the collections of FRAC des Pays de la Loire, Carquefou, France; ARoS Museum, Aarhus, Denmark; and the Pizzuti Collection of the Columbus Museum of Art, Columbus, OH. In 2019, Weaver presented concurrent solo exhibitions at institutions in Germany: O.K., at Kunstpalais Erlangen and Little Sister at Oldenburger Kunstverein. The two museums have collaborated on the first monograph of the artist's work, published by Kerber Verlag. Weaver lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.

EPA’s National Aquatic Resource Surveys are designed to provide nationally consistent and representative information on the condition of the nation’s waters. Learn about the history of this program below.

EPA Research Updates

EPA is kicking off a month-long celebration of its progress in conducting innovative research to protect human health and the environment. Since 1970, EPA researchers and partners have provided data, knowledge, and tools to address public health concerns. Read about some notable accomplishments over the last 50 years and the current challenges our researchers are helping to address.

In honor of EPA’s 50th anniversary, Dr. Jennifer Orme-Zavaleta is discussing her career with the Agency, which started in 1981. Read about what EPA research was like in its early years and how she hopes it will progress in the years to come.

EPA has a dedicated, full-time team focused on how to destroy PFAS-contaminated media and waste. The PFAS Innovative Treatment Team is assessing how well current and emerging PFAS destruction methods work and their potential to create harmful byproducts. This work will ultimately help states, tribes, and communities deal with various sources of PFAS waste, including unused fire retardants, contaminated sewage, and contaminated landfill leachate.

For nearly 50 years, EPA has strived to protect and restore the quality of our nation’s waters. These efforts have evolved over time into the National Aquatic Resource Surveys (NARS). The NARS began in the early 2000s as a collaboration between EPA, states, and tribes to provide the public and decision-makers with improved environmental information on the quality of the nation's coastal waters, lakes and reservoirs, rivers and streams, and wetlands.

Small businesses are an essential part of the U.S. economy. For nearly 40 years, EPA’s Small Business Innovation Research program has supported small businesses to develop novel technologies that promote clean and safe water, improved air quality, land revitalization, homeland security, sustainable materials management and safer chemicals. Read about some of EPA’s SBIR winners.

EPA awarded $3,980,782 in funding to five academic research teams to advance chemical safety. The teams are developing new approach methods for evaluating chemical toxicokinetics, an important aspect of evaluating the impacts of chemicals on human health and the environment. This research will provide critical science to advance our understanding of the impacts of chemicals on human health and the environment.
