In a sweeping showcase of modern art, Nassau County Museum of Art opens two exhibitions, Selections from the Saltzman Family Collection and Long Island Collects Modern Art on Saturday, July 25. The exhibitions remain on view through November 8, 2015. The previous advance announcement of the showing of the Saltzman Family Collection is replaced by these two exhibitions that together fall under the title THE MODERNS: Chagall, Degas, Léger, Miró, Picasso and more….
THE MODERNS: Selections from the Saltzman Family Collection continues celebrations of the Museum’s 25th anniversary year with an exhibition of early 20th-century modern art. The exhibition honors the Museum’s Founding President, the late Ambassador Arnold A. Saltzman, who during his life formed one of America’s great private collections of early modernist painting and sculpture. The exhibition includes works by well-known modernists such as Marc Chagall, Joan Miró, Constantin Brancusi, Edgar Degas, Robert Delaunay, Pablo Picasso, Fernand Léger and many others.
THE MODERNS: Long Island Collects Modern Art, organized by guest curator Franklin Hill Perrell, draws together choice examples of 20th-century art from significant Long Island collections. This special presentation embraces a wide range of treasures by pioneering artists of the modernist era, among them Matisse, Monet, Renoir, Dali, Léger, Chagall, Miró, Toulouse-Lautrec and others.
The Museum is offering several public programs that will serve to enhance and illuminate the works on view. The Brown Bag Lecture series of exhibition talks will be presented on August 27, September 24 and October 29. Jake Gorst, author of a book on his grandfather, modernist architect Andrew Geller, presents a talk on his famous relative on September 26. Art historian Miriam Brumer discusses works in the Saltzman family collection on October 17. On November 7, Shirley Romaine discusses Serge Sabarsky, who mounted exhibitions of German and Austrian Expressionist works beginning in 1989 when he was the first director of the newly privatized Nassau County Museum of Art. A 30-minute documentary, Edgar Degas of Dandies, Ballerinas and Women Ironing, screens daily. Please visit nassaumuseum.org/events for details and registration information.

FRACTAL IDENTITIES – Entropy . Disorders . Obsessions
It’s LIQUID International Art Show Deadline: July 01, 2015
It’s LIQUID Group, in collaboration with International ArtExpo, is selecting all interesting photo works, experimental video-art works, paintings, installations and performance art works to include in the next 2015 exhibition:
FRACTAL IDENTITIES – Entropy . Disorders . Obsessions, international art exhibition of photography, video art, installation, painting and performance art, that will be hosted in Venice, at Palazzo Ca’ Zanardi and Venice Art House, from the 15th to the 25th of July 2015.
FRACTAL IDENTITIES – Entropy . Disorders . Obsessions is part of SELF festival, organized in Venice at Palazzo Ca’ Zanardi and Venice Art House, from the opening day of Venice Art Biennale (May 9, 2015), with a rich program of different events until November 2015. For the first time in Venice we will give audience the possibility to have private meetings with artists, to meet them personally and share their art and experience. Each event will have a strong program of video art screenings and premiers, art residencies, talks, workshops, live dj set, live experimental dance and art performances.
After many years of research and exhibitions about the evolution of the idea of identity, we ask artists to share their personal tales through artworks; to create a link between the personal experience and the audience; to tell us which are the stories and reasons beneath their works. More info about SELF festival:www.itsliquid.com/call-self-
The festival SELF is organized and curated by Luca Curci (director of It’s LIQUID and International ArtExpo) and Andrea Chinellato (director of Ca’ Zanardi and Venice Art House), and supported by Comune di Veneziaand Provincia di Venezia.
FRACTAL IDENTITIES – Entropy . Disorders . Obsessions: entropy is conceptually defined as the measure of the level of disorder in a changing system. Starting from this fascinating concept, each person can be considered as a changing system, as the same as for a specific culture, city or country, until the whole universe. All these systems are subjected to a process of continuous inner evolution which overcome their own boundaries to contaminate and crossbreed each others. Borders of this evolving systems get more and more fleeting, and their identities turn out fluid, multiple, fractal and changeable. These continue changes find in the inevitability of evolution their measure of order.
Each event of SELF festival will present an exclusive selection of artworks, video screening program, intense live performances, with its own dedicated opening ceremony and PR campaign. At the end of the whole exhibition cycle there will be the publication of a catalogue.
Selection is open to video art, photography, painting, sculpture/installation, art performance and experimental dance.
