On March 23, 1843, James Durfee, Sr. married Julia Vinal (1822-1855) and the couple had two daughters, Mary Walker Durfee, born January 31, 1847, and Ellen Wade Durfee, born April 16, 1849. About the Project

Seven Women Seven Sins brought together some of the world?s most renown

women directors: Helke Sander (GLUTTONY), Bette Gordon (GREED), Maxi 

Cohen (ANGER), Chantal Akerman (SLOTH), Valie Export (LUST), Laurence 

Gavron (ENVY), and Ulrike Ottinger (PRIDE). Each filmmaker chose a sin 

to interpret as they wished. The final film reflected this diversity, 

including traditional narrative fiction, experimental video, a musical,

and a radical documentary.

Funding Goal

$43,000 is needed to preserve this important work. However, we have 

already raised $25,000 in cash and in-kind services. Our goal is to 

raise $17,000 through this campaign.

Mike Weiss Gallery is pleased to present Canadian artist Kim Dorland's third solo exhibition at the gallery, a tour-de-force of large-scale oil works on canvas that transport us to a place of heightened psychological portent as they transfix us with an undeniably sensual physicality. Known for his thick impasto marks and near-sculptural effect, Dorland's newest body of work amps up recent color palettes, returning to fluorescent oranges and penetrating, acrid greens, liberating their application into a looser expression of drips and washes. The title, Ghosts of You and Me, besides being a Leonard Cohen lyric and woeful personal reflection, alludes to the at-times otherworldly glow that now grips his subjects: lone drunks and sleepwalking dreamers, ghostly clearings in dark forests, and glimpses of the artist so engulfed in his own creative act that we, as viewers, seem to hover at their perimeter.    For questions or more information, please contact Anna Ortt, Director, at anna@mikeweissgallery.com.

Breath of Salt Air April 2, 2013 Rough Surf 30 x 40 oil on canvas When you get down to the ocean you never quite know what to expect. Will it be peaceful and flat, or rough and churned up?  The sea with its changeable and unpredictable moods will confound you every time. It doesn’t seem to matter what kind of temper the water is in. When we take it in and watch the action, we feel better. I like to face the waves head on so that the horizon, the waves and the shore line up in horizontal bands.  You might notice most of my wave paintings are composed this way. There is something brave in facing the tangible force of the wave that helps to strengthen the backbone.
