Paul D'Agostino: Appearance Adrift in the Garden

Norte Maar is pleased to present Paul D’Agostino: Appearance Adrift in the Garden. This is the first one-person exhibition of the artist’s work and will feature new prints and collages in which color, time, and subject fade into and feed off of one another. New prints by Leslie Kerby and works on paper by Kai Vierstra will be featuring in the project room. The exhibition opens with a reception for the artists on February 3 from 6-9pm and will continue through March 4. The gallery at Norte Maar is open weekends 1-6pm and by appointment. For more information call 646-361-8512.

Paul D’Agostino is an artist who translates, severs, layers, wipes out and remakes images. His semantic abilities and linguistic fluidity are matched only by the variations in materials the artist uses to make work--work that is infused with an adrenaline, an intellectual rigor and a clarity that has made this artist an important one to watch. In this one-person show, the artist’s first, D’Agostino presents, along with new collage work, two recent sets of serialized monoprints in which image and repetition battle for recognition on a surface steadied by one’s ability to source a story and make sense in circumstance.

A new publication of writings by D’Agostino, printed as a literal and metaphorical appendage to the artwork and titled Bodies, Voids and a Tale of Seas, will accompany the exhibit. It features poetry in several languages, with translations provided, as well as a short story, AnchorsREAD MORE =>

David Markovich

David Markovich was born and raised in New York City. Even in childhood he showed an entrepreneurial knack – from selling Yo-yos to the other kids at school to being a key sales player at multinational credit card processing company, MerchantPro Express, by age 18. Mr. Markovich began his online career at Kidssocks.com and Mensunglasses.com, two small startups, where his duties included: Brand development, web site traffic growth, internet and traditional media marketing, brand strategy and analytics systems in addition to being the sole customer service and public relations representative. As part of brand development he was tasked with finding new vendors that fit the company ideals and would be conducive to the company’s further growth.

In the course of business at Kidssocks.com David was introduced to Eli Feldblum, founder and CTO of RankAbove, when Eli was contracted to handle the SEO for the company. David X. Levine - Amy Winehouse Exhibition

Steven Zevitas Gallery

David X Levine | Installation of Drawings, color pencil on paper, various dimensions

David X. Levine: Amy Winehouse

January 20 - February 25, 2012
Reception: Friday, February 3, 5:30 pm
450 Harrison Avenue #47 | Boston, MA 02118

Boston – Steven Zevitas Gallery is pleased to present Amy Winehouse, an exhibition of new work by Boston-area native and New York-based artist, David X. Levine. The exhibition will be on view from Friday, January 20 through Saturday, February 25, 2012, with an opening reception Friday, February 3.

Over the past two years, Levine has focused his energy on producing large-scale works on paper. Amy Winehouse presents four such pieces - including a twelve and a half foot wide triptych - as well as an installation of smaller works that provide a lexicon of Levine’s current pictorial vocabulary. Colored pencil continues to be Levine’s medium of choice, and in the interest of allowing viewers to have a more immediate relationship with the work’s inherent tactility and facture, the decision was made to leave the show unframed.

Music has always been a strong source of inspiration for Levine, and he intends for his work to function with the same unmediated directness. Upon hearing of her death in July of last year, Levine made the decision that his next exhibition would be titled Amy Winehouse. In her music, Levine finds a “raw openness and an ability to corral it into a finished experience” that mirrors his own goals.

Levine’s work has been the focus of a number of one-man exhibitions, including shows at Tony Wight Gallery in Chicago, Dust Gallery in Las Vegas, and Eight Modern in Santa Fe. Group exhibitions include shows at Spencer Brownstone Gallery in New York City and Cherry Martin in Los Angeles. This is Levine’s third solo exhibition at Steven Zevitas Gallery.

Click here for the review of Amy Winehouse on The Boston Globe by Cate McQuaid.

The artist will be present for an opening reception on Friday, February 3rd from 5:30 – 8:00 PM. You can also watch a time lapse video of Levine doing an installation of the 50 drawings he created for his show Amy Winehouse here.

For additional information, please contact Steven Zevitas at 617.778.5265 (ext. 22). Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 11AM – 5 PM.
