Synopsis: After watching the last of the old colonial movie theaters destroyed in the earthquake, a young Haitian man enlists the help of a priest and two young aid workers to build Haiti's only movie theater on a hill above a tent city. With some outside help and in four days, residents of a post-earthquake tent city outside Port-au-Prince erect a movie house. On opening night the new marquee lights and children's laughter dispel some of their world's bitter darkness. This is the joyful and moving story of a community torn apart by disaster then united in a singular vision.

Mexicans and Central Americans celebrate Dia De Los Muertos, a day of remembrance for dead family members and friends. The Armenian-Greek-Assyrians who perished by Ottoman government ethnic cleansing orders in 1915 are also remembered and celebrated by modern-day Armenians.
Armenian Genocide graves do not exist. Armenians were deported to the desert to rot, which saved the Ottoman government the expense of ammunition and mass grave clean-up. Regardless of the fact that 43 of the 50 U.S. states have made individual proclamations recognizing the events of 1915 to 1923 as genocide and the U.S. House Committee on Foreign Affairs has recognized the massacres of 1915 as 'genocide', The United States Government continues to maintain a multi-billion dollar military base in Turkey and remains 'politically correct' about atrocities committed against humanity.  
  
Art remembers the past

Scientific analysis of post-traumatic stress disorder and subsequent recovery requires recognizing the trauma, confronting the source, and supporting the grieving process to allow healing to happen. Accordingly, the "Requiem For the Forgotten: The Armenian Genocide" installation consists of three parts. 

Sophia Gasparian's childlike aesthetic juxtaposed with social satire suggest the final process of healing from the denied death trauma. Survival of the "unwanted" and the ability of the oppressed to contribute to the newly adopted culture are signs of social triumph over historic evil. Arpine Shakhbandaryan 's 24K gold leaf and oil "Armenian Genocide Map" addresses the historical events of the 1915 Armenian Genocide while Kaloust Guedel's masterfully executed and emotionally charged work provides the immediate and primal confrontation. Zareh's work suggests a poetic look at death and genocide trauma.
   

"Requiem For the Forgotten: The Armenian Genocide" includes Gasparian's collaborations with Los Angeles based fellow artists Lydia Emily, Terri Berman, Daisuke Okamoto, Douglas Alvarez, Farzad Kohan and LeNic, addressing Native American Genocide, the current AIDS epidemic, a terrorist feared world and the declaration of Jihad (holy war) on ignorance and institutionalized oppression. Harmonic collaborations amongst these artists, the gallery and the audience are a form of a non-violent discourse.

Founder and Executive Director of Avenue 50 Studio, Kathy Mas-Gallegos' curatorial choices have been courageous, socially oriented and visually pleasing. Through education, cultural exchange and art, solidarity and unity are created within the larger extended community. Avenue 50 Studio serves as a strong force behind these collaborative achievements, crossing Byzantine Latino cultures to remember Los Todos Muertos.

When your ancestors come from a land of genocide and oppression, you have no choice but to fight for your survival and contribute to securing equal human rights worldwide.

"Requiem for the Forgotten: The Armenian Genocide" includes my contemplations on death and collaborations on the cost of our freedom of speech (with LeNic - "Walrus and Me"), on ignorance (with Farzad Kohan - "Jihad on Ignorance"), on stopping the current wars that bring death and destruction (with Lydia Emily - "Hope Bombs"), on the HIV epidemic (with Terri Berman  -"Pediatric AIDS"), on post 911 identity profiling (with Daisuke Okamoto - "Don't Judge Me By My Government"), and new philosophies on looking at death and spiritual imortality ("Death Is Not The End").

My paintings remember the history, honor the dead and carry on our cultural legacy.

The billionaire property developer Donald Trump has bought up hundreds of acres on the northeast coast of Scotland, best known to movie-lovers as the setting for the 1983 classic film “Local Hero.”  And like the American oil tycoon played by Burt Lancaster, he needs to buy out a few more locals to make the deal come true. In a land swimming with golf courses, Trump is going to build two more – alongside a 450-room hotel and 1,500 luxury homes.  The trouble is, the land he purchased occupies one of Europe’s most environmentally sensitive stretches of coast, described by one leading scientist as Scotland’s Amazon rain forest.  And the local residents don't want it destroyed. 

After the Scottish Government overturns its own environmental laws to give Trump the green light, the stage is set for an extraordinary summer of discontent, as the bulldozers spring into action. Water and power is cut off, land disputes erupt, and some residents have thousands of tons of earth piled up next to their homes.  Complaints go ignored by the police, who instead arrest the film's director, Anthony Baxter.  Local exasperation comes to a surreal head as the now  “Dr” Trump scoops up an honorary doctorate from a local university, even as his tractors turn wild, untouched dunes into fairways.  

Told entirely without narration, You've Been Trumped captures the cultural chasm between the glamorous, jet setting and media savvy Donald Trump and a deeply rooted Scottish community, whose local dialect demands a liberal use of subtitles.  What begins as an often amusing clash of world-views grows increasingly bitter and disturbing.

Funny, inspiring and heartbreaking in turns, You’ve Been Trumped is an environmental parable for our celebrity driven times.

Directed by Anthony Baxter, “You’ve Been Trumped” was produced by Angus based independent production company Montrose Pictures Ltd.  The film score features music from world the world renowned Sigur Ros and the band’s frontman Jonsi.

The French Ministry of Culture and Communication had agreed to place cutlog under its patronage.

cutlog, a Parisian, cutting-edge contemporary art fair dedicated to promoting international galleries which are supporting emerging artists, will hold it’s third edition from the 20th to the 23rd of October 2011. The galleries of cutlog 2011 will present artworks from their emerging artists, as well as the latest works from their established positions.

cutlog is both an alternative and a complement to the other art fairs, focused on presenting under-the-radar galleries, it offers a platform to up and coming artists, as well a bridge between galleries and established collectors. Held under the dome of the Bourse de Commerce, France’s historical equivalent of Wall Street.

ARTE / cutlog Prize
On the occasion of cutlog 2011, the international contemporary art fair, ARTE, the Franco-German TV network, is investing in the cutting edge discovery of art. The ARTE / cutlog Prize will reward an artist ex­hibited at cutlog 2011 and the prize will be presented at the Bourse de Commerce in Paris during the fair.

On Friday, 21 October, a jury composed of personalities from the art world will award the winner a 5000 euro grant. Accompanying the winner’s ceremony will be leading art critics, collectors, museum directors and perso­nalities from ARTE.

ARTE will present a selection of films.

Mediterranean
For the first time, cutlog presents its artist’s film festival. This event will take place on the following two dates: during cutlog, contemporary art fair and cutlog Photo at the Paris Bourse de commerce. A part of this festival will be on the Mediterranean theme. The numerous guests are artists, galerists and indigenous from the Mediterranean region or working in the Mediterranean region or on the subject. This meeting will be plenty of discovery, colours and uniqueness.

Forums, Conferences, Films
Montparnasse Museum and his curator Jean Digne will held a discussion about Mediterranean and new territories with guest: Tunisia. Rachida Triki, professor specialized in Aesthetics and Philosophy of Art, will be present too.

Last year, Franck Perrin (artist and founder of Crash Magazine), Nod’A (digital art lab), Samuel Bianchini (digital artist), Pierre Sterckx (art critic and writer) et Sacha Zerbib (specialist in collection development with CAAC), have inaugurated a conference space at the Bourse du Commerce dedicated to forums and round-table debates. This year, conferences and debates alternated with artist’s movies are going to be presented on Saturday October 22 and Sunday October 23.

Each year, a handful of Dominican players, almost always from low-income families, are selected to begin their careers in the United States. That invitation comes with a signing bonus and the promise of a secure future for their families. The system, however, is flawed. A must-see for fans of baseball, PELOTERO tells the story of two of the nation’s most talented hopefuls, and their long, rocky road towards achieving their dreams.



PELOTERO provides an intimate portrait of two young prospects as they navigate the calculating, mercenary and often corrupt elements that surround Major League Baseball's recruitment of the island's top talent.


The central question behind PELOTERO is a simple one: Why are Dominicans so good at baseball? The tiny island nation is consistently overrepresented in the Major Leagues, and as America’s pastime continues to globalize, every year brings a fresh crop of young Dominican Peloteros to the top levels of the game.


PELOTERO sheds light on some of the most pressing issues regarding the export of Dominican baseball players to the US: age and identity fraud, exploitation, and the opaque role Major League Baseball plays in determining the fates of young players and their families.
