The latest exhibition at Brassworks on Grove - New Jersey's off beat, alternative art space in a beautifully renovated loft building - features paintings inspired by industry. Allan Gorman of Montclair, NJ will show his bold, colorful and dramatic paintings of trucks and industrial landscapes. These tight graphic works will offer counter balance to Jersey City artist Lynda D'Amico's lyrical and romantic cityscapes mostly based on scenes from the Jersey City and Brooklyn, NY waterfronts. Gorman, who has been painting with a fury over the past three years, demonstrates the strong graphic sensibilities of a designer. His simplified, angular, semi-abstract canvases and prints show a kinship with the photo realists, but betray his love of abstraction and the touch of the painter's hand. Gorman himself admits he is nostalgic. His canvases transport viewers back to a simpler, quieter time and that is exactly what he's after. "There's something very comforting and safe there, and I like to make images - even if they're modern - that have the ability to transport me to somewhere familiar," he admits. Gorman, primarily self-taught, began painting in the early 1980's while teaching ad concepts at The School of Visual Arts in NYC, and then took a hiatus of 20 years. Since his return to painting, his work has been seen in more than 15 nationally juried exhibits, including the NJ Arts Annual at the NJ State Museum in Trenton. He's also the winner of several ArtSlant Showcases, and is presently the featured artist for August on NJArts.com Lynda D'Amico, a Jersey City resident, delights viewers with her muted, Latin American inspired palette and technique. She says her approach to art has been largely influenced by studying with a noted South American artist who inspired her passion for painting. Although the scenes she paints capture reality, D'Amico says her work is actually guided by the principles of abstraction--to simplify in order to expose the subject's essence. D'Amico states: "I have always been attracted to the warm tones and strong simple forms of the old industrial buildings that make up the area where I have lived for the past 30 years.  On the surface, there is part of me that is interested in capturing the poetic beauty of these historic neighborhoods in the midst of their transformation. Beneath that, whether the inspiration comes from cityscapes or objects that make up a still life, my desire is that the finished painting is not merely a depiction of the real thing."  Her work often captures a more mysterious and almost spiritual quality that is both delightful and transformational.  D'Amico is the recipient of several fellowships and residencies, and her work has been purchased by many public, corporate and private collections.  The artist's give back. 20% of sale proceeds to be donated to Children's Hospital of NJ. BrassWorks on Grove is a unique, alternative space located in the NYC suburb of Montclair, NJ.  Curator, Hillary Jaffe Reimnitz coordinates 3-4 two-person exhibits a year in a beautiful contemporary space very well suited to displaying art.  "We're not running a traditional commercial gallery," says Jaffe Reimnitz, "but our standards are high nevertheless.  We show only the best local artists, and Gorman and D'Amico suit our space perfectly." "Since we don't have the same burdens that a commercially-run space does, we're able to come up with some creative business ideas too," she goes on.  "And since the economy has had such an impact on nonprofit institutions that help the less fortunate in our communites, we've all agreed to donate 20% of the proceeds from the sales to help the fundraising efforts of Children's Hospital of New Jersey at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. It's a win-win for everyone, and we're all excited and expect a large turn-out at the opening." Children's Hospital of New Jersey is the state's premier hospital dedicated to caring for children. Due to unprecedented numbers of hospital closings in Essex, Hudson, Union, and Passaic counties, Children's Hospital has become the health care anchor for poor, uninsured children in northern New Jersey. Only about 10% of Children's Hospital's patients are privately insured. With Medicaid reimbursements in New Jersey close to the lowest in the country, Children's Hospital must rely on additional outside funding if it is to continue to serve this most vulnerable population. An artist's reception is scheduled for October 15, 2010, from 6-9P, where there will also be a presentation by the lead pediatrician from the Children's Hospital. All are welcome.

Light art Biennial Austria 2010

The first „Lightart Biennale Austria 2010“ is a non-commercial exhibition of lightart. There are light-artists as well as visual artists who uses light as an art-medium.  The Biennale 2010 is using the slogan „private light in public spaces“.

The Lightart-Biennale Austria 2010 starts in autumn 2010 in Austria, consultant is Peet Thomsen (USA/Copenhagen/Linz) and the works are selected by a jury.

The start of the Biennale will be September 1st in Linz and September 4th 2010 in Perchtoldsdorf, with a final exhibition in Vienna in November 2010.  We keep the public informed about the  Biennale with a Blog, a Website and a planned printed catalogue. Animazing Gallery l Comic Book Legends

NEW YORK, NY - Comic Book legends Stan Lee and Neal Adams will be making appearances at Animazing Gallery in SoHo this October. Stan Lee will be signing on October 9th from 7-10PM, and presenting Marvel art by Alex Ross, Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, and more.  A portion of the proceeds from this show will benefit the Stan Lee Foundation, a non-profit organization that seeks to provide access to literacy, education and the arts throughout the nation. Neal Adams will be signing on October 21st from 6-9PM, and presenting original comic book pages from his new DC series Batman Odyssey. ABOUT STAN LEE Stan Lee is known world-wide as the man who propelled Marvel Comics to its preeminent position in the comic book industry. His co-creations include Spider- Man, The Incredible Hulk, X-Men, The Fantastic Four, Iron Man, Daredevil, The Avengers, Silver Surfer and Dr. Strange. Stan Lee has had more influence within the comic book industry than anyone before or since. As I've said before, my vote is for Neal Adams"- Geoff Boucher, LA Times Neal's had legendary 'runs' on Batman, X-Men, Green Lantern-Green Arrow and Deadman. Adams rescued Batman from his campy TV show, and transformed him into his present "Avenger of the Night." When people say 'modern Batman,' they mean Neal Adams' Batman. His run directly led to the realistic incarnation seen in Batman Returns, and the Dark Knight movies. He godfathered a generation of new talent, brought down the comics code by introducing "relevant comics" and gave America its first black comic book superhero.  While fighting for creator's rights, he convinced publishers to return original art to its creators, improved standards of comic book production, forced publishers to pay royalties...and crusaded against work-made-for-hire in the copyright law. In addition, Neal has launched a successful production company - Continuity Studios - which produced the popular Nasonex Bee Campaign and introduced us to the concept of Motion Comics. He designed the popular Terminator, T2 4-D ride, and the Spider-man Rides at Universal Studios. While setting-up his own characters with various Hollywood Studios and Producers, Neal is currently writing and drawing Batman Odyssey, for DC, a 12 issue series, and writing and drawing a 5 issue series of Wolverine for Marvel.

We are expecting a very full house, so please arrive a few minutes before 11:00 am.

Splurge Art Gallery - Bucerias Mexico

Bucerias, Nayarit, Mexico - August 30th, 2010 - After a very successful first year "Splurge Art Gallery" is pleased to announce that it is relocating to a larger gallery space in Las Palmas Bucerias, Nayarit, Mexico at the beginning of October 2010.

"Splurge has come to be known as, not only, the gallery of choice for great international and Mexican fineart, but also for unique designer pewter pieces," said Randal Wark, co-owner of Splurge Art Gallery.

Since its opening in October 2009, the gallery has been embraced by the Bucerias Art Community and residents, and is sought out by travelers and international artists alike.

Mr. Wark continued: "The new location will provide additional space for exhibitions, workshops and educational programs. The gallery will also focus on providing greater exposure for environmental art and promoting environment-oriented organizations."

In addition to hosting group and solo exhibitions, Splurge Art Gallery's new space will include a dedicated area for beautiful hand-made jewellery.

Splurge Art Gallery is set to move into its new space, located at Calle Lazaro Cardenas 60 Col. Las Palmas Bucerias, Nayarit, Mexico, in October 2010.

Gala Opening

A gala opening reception will be held at the new location on Saturday October 9th, 2010. Artist Kevin Jenne will be on site to welcome guests and the gallery will feature works by Carolina Echeverria (Chile), new works from Mexican natives Rafael Martinez and Marcos Antonio and other artistic talents.
