2010 Digital Art L.A. International Call for Entries
The L.A. Center for Digital Art announces an international call to artists. All styles of artwork and photography where digital processes of any kind were integral to their creation are acceptable: digital images of any kind, digital photogaphy, 3D and 2D digital animation video, short experimental time based video, video loops, mobile media, interactive media, and internet art (net.art). Selected winners will be exhibited as the central focus of the 'DigitalArt.LA' expo (http://DigitalArt.LA) in a large group exhibit at the LACDA gallery, September 9-October 2, 2010. Video winners will also be screened at the Downtown Film Festival Los Angeles. The show will be widely promoted and will include a reception for the artists. Watch Robin Antar On Caught In The Act - Art In Brooklyn

Greetings!
On Wednesday July 28, Brooklyn’s very own modern sculpture extraordinaire, Robin Antar, will be featured on an episode of Caught In The Act: Art In Brooklyn. Ms. Antar, who has had incredible success with her stone sculptures and other contemporary sculptures which represent key items in American culture, will be featuring some of her latest artwork on the program. If you are a supporter of Ms. Antar’s works, you certainly want to catch this show, as she will get to explain things that can give the audience a further look into her artwork and herself as an artist.
If you already have an appreciation for Ms. Antar’s artwork, seeing her in action will give you a whole new level of appreciation for her. Not only are you going to see the artwork that she produces, but you are going to see the source out of which her artwork is produced. This new layer of knowledge, which many people are not exposed to, can actually change the perception of her artwork in a very positive way.
With that being said, be sure to check out Caught In The Act: Art In Brooklyn on Wednesday night, July 28, at 10 P.M. Born in Argentina, the designer Octavio Amado is known worldwide for his creations and installations of a stongly suggestive character. A painter and a sculptor in origin, Octavio Amado sees light as a primary source of confort, pleasure and a causer of sensations. Aware to new technologies, he creates objects of double function: useful but also a work of art with a contemporary, industrial and nomad constitution. Octavio thinks that the relation between the object and its user is a fundamental element, so modularity is a constant theme in his creations. Nowadays, he designs collections for his own label and increasingly for other companies. Daily life wall clock This wall clock doesn't indicate time by numbers and hands. Instead, the figures of a grandmother, grandchild and dog represent hours, minutes and seconds. Silhouettes of nature and daily life are arranged around the clock, and each figure moves through these scenes to represent the time. The Daily Life Clock from BGM project doesn't indicate time by hands or numbers. Instead, the clock represents time by figures like a grandmother, a grandchild, and a dog. The grandmother represents hours, the grandchild minutes and the dog is used for seconds. Each figure rotates around a globe and passes through various scenes. The scenes are repeated continuously without much variation. For example, one scene has each figure passing through a forest of trees. The clock is an attempt to embody parts of daily life in the form of nature and people. The clock is a wall-mounted parable that reminds people of the monotony of everyday life. The clock is also a reminder of mortality by using figures such as a the grandchild and grandmother. Some people might find the clock depressing, however there are numerous fans of the clock that love the concept. The design of the clock is clearly engaging and it provides a unique way to tell time. Dongjin Byeon Dongjin Byeon lives in Seoul, Korea. He graduated from Hongik University majoring in industrial design and had designed as lifestyle designer for INNOdesign (consulting&design company), one of the World's 10 design company selected by nikkei BP Sep.2009 with IDEO, Fuseproject, AMO/OMA, Front and so on. He has worked in various fields of design ranging from small electric products, household products, lighting, interior, exhibtion etc. He found his studio in 2010 and is the creative director of BGM project since 2009. Some of his products have received international design awards like "the best excellence product award" in 100% Design Tokyo and "Special mention" (2nd prized) in LIGHTOUCH by Singapol design association sponsored by FLOS. He is interested in the synergy of objects and communication between objects and human. According to him, an object can have an influence on another object; then the other object can disappeared or developped with the original object. This interaction can lead to the creation of a new entirely different object. Dongjin Byeon has been designing objects that can be enhanced by their mutual existence. Animazing Gallery Art Walk

The SoHo Arts Walk continues its 3rd year celebrating the SoHo arts scene with a collaboration of fine established galleries in the neighborhood.

Every third Thursday of the month from April/May through September, participants can take a stroll through this historic neighborhood, and enjoy exhibitions of diverse forms of art.

Galleries are generally open from 10 am to 7pm and art consultants and artits are available to discuss the exhibitions.

early 20th century American painter, from the collection of Peter Falotico of Northport.
Full of vitality, the thirty-five watercolors and oils on view, painted largely during Starkweather's summer travels to remote locales in Maine and the maritime provinces
of Canada provide a visual diary of his life and show us a thoughtful artist who rejected
the prevalent style of his day to create works that are surprisingly modern to our eyes.

SCULPTURE will be the final exhibition in the series of four media specific exhibitions. 20 artists will be selected by our juror Willard Boepple for the group show at Rogue Space. Five artists from each show will go forward to a "Best of Show" Exhibition featuring 20 works, from which one artist will be chosen to receive a weekend solo show at Rogue Space | Chelsea and a documentary film produced by our sister companyFilmsOnArtists. ABOUT THE JUROR: WILLARD BOEPPLE was born in Bennington and educated at UC Berkeley, RISD and CCNY. Willard has shown regularly in New York since the early seventies where he is represented by Lori Bookstein Fine Art. He is represented in the UK by Broadbent Gallery, London. He has taught at Bennington College and the Boston Museum School and traveled extensively in Africa as a U.S. A State Dept Visiting Cultural Specialist. He is Chairman of the Triangle Artists' Workshop and serves on the board of the Vermont Studio Center.His work is in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the Storm King Art Center and The Fitz-William Museum, Goodwood and Yorkshire Sculpture Parks in England among many collections both public and private. He lives and works in North Bennington and New York.
